The State of the Bucs’ Young Head Coach &Younger Quarterback…

This is a letter that I am debating sending to GM Mark Dominik- what do you think…

The State of the Bucs’ Young Head Coach and Younger Quarterback….

Dear Bucs Management,

Please do not fire head coach Raheem Morris, I feel as though you need to take a look at the most successful franchises in all sports and you will find that teams that stick with their manager are perennial winners (Bobby Cox manager of the Braves, Jerry Sloan coach of the Utah Jazz, Bill Walsh former coach of the 49ers, Bill Cowher former coach of the Steelers). Morris needs time to develop his personal. You, as management, felt like Morris is the future.

Well, Rome was not built in a day, there are going to be many bumps in the road with the changes you have made with coaching and players. Specifically looking at your young quarterback, Josh Freeman, who you believe has the talent to be a franchise caliber player in the league.

Freeman is only 21 years old and it is going to take time for his body to fully develop and for him to get comfortable running a NFL team. His shoulders are big but as management you need to give them a chance to grow so he is able to put the team on his back and carry them for the next 10 years. There is no shame in letting him hold a clip board, get comfortable with the signals, the play calls, see the game - how his wide outs break out of a pattern, tendencies of the offensive linemen. Your fans will surely take one or two bad seasons for 10-15 good ones.

Freeman’s develop is crucial to your franchise. Time and energy are the two big factors that Freeman needs to show you, the coaches, his peers, and the fans.

If Freeman could look for someone to mimic I would stay within the division and shadow Matt Ryan, quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons. Steve Young speaks very highly of Matt Ryan, calling him the “…best sophomore quarterback the league has ever had…”. Ryan spends so much time in the film room, learning, listening, watching, improving his body with tenuous conditioning, and building strong bonds with his weapons (Roddy White, Michael Turner, Tony Gonzalez, Michael Jenkins) so that they take their cohesion off the field and showcase their chemistry with one another on the field.

Matt Ryan and all that he does is a perfect example of how to prove to you and everyone around you that this team that paid him so much money and put so much into him…well…that it was worth it.

I know the changes you made were necessary - though like all fans we miss the days of Sapp, Lynch, Rice, Brooks, Kelly, Dunn, Kiffin, Gruden, and Dungy…just to name a few.

Please weigh the decisions you make!

Sincerely,

Concerned Fan

I would send the letter. This is a level-headed view of the Bucs. They’re a classic young team that’s just simply going through some struggles. I could definitely see them getting hot in late December. Everyone just needs to stay patient.
