Wow- I don't think I've ever come so close to having a heart attack. The amount of ways that we tried to give this game to Jacksonville was stunning. Over and over again, when we had a chance to slam the door on them, we gave them hope- two fumbles in field goal range, and missed 38 yard field goal (the first missed FG inside the 40 for Dan Carpenter's career), and a bad interception thrown by Henne all contributed to make a game that should have been a double digit blow out into a 4 point squeaker.
There are a couple of ways to look at this. The pessimist will say that this is a sign that the Dolphins are pretenders. Jacksonville is far from being a top NFL team, and we just could not put them away when we had everything on the line.
The optimist will say that this is [...]

I'm not going to be a classless lout and say the Dolphins lost this game. Don't get me wrong- we played well enough to win for spurts and stretches. It was a close game, but ultimately the more talented team won. The team fought valiantly, our young players had some bright moments, but when push came to shove we once again couldn't keep up. With well over 2 minutes to go and only a touchdown needed to tie the game, we once again saw untimely drops by our sub par receivers, and an inability to run the ball even when the Patriots were set up to defend the pass. When you're up against Tom Brady and Randy Moss, you have to make all the plays you can because you know they will (a la Moss' ridiculous one handed catch with Vontae draped all over him).
Our draft needs are becoming [...]

I'm not going to write an article to beat up on Miami Dolphins OLB Joey Porter. In fact, after Porter posted donuts in every defensive statistic during the New England Patriots 27-17 defeat of the Dolphins, I have a new found understanding of Porter. No, Porter doesn't hate New England. On the contrary, Joey Porter LOVES the Patriots! Why else would he make it a point to discuss the *championship* background of the Patriots at every opportunity? Because he loves to remind people of the impact the New England Patriots have had on his career (and life in general). Why would he comment so much on QB Tom Brady having his own set of rules? Because if he would have gotten to Brady even once, all of the highlight shows would have shown it, and it would have made Porter warm [...]

Well, the first week of training camp is past us and the wheat is being separated from the chafe. Lets take a look at some of the trends that have emerged.
First Trend- Training Camp is Hard!: If you thought training camp was just running around in pajamas and goofing off- consider this: FOUR Dolphins this off-season have either quit, or not even bothered to show up. FB Matt Quillen is the most recent drop out, and before him SirVincent Rogers and Ethan Kilmer stopped showing up. TE Jared Bronson didn't even bother to come! Now that is how you run a training camp. Matt Roth also failed his conditioning test for mysterious reasons, and has yet to play with the team. It was initially reported that he was sick, but his agent (Drew Rosenhous) later let it [...]

The unusually quiet off season has continued for the Dolphins. Its a bad thing for writers and bloggers, but overall a great thing for fans. As they say- no news is good news. That means no one associated with the team is holding out, getting arrested, or generally making an ass of themself in public. There are, however, a few things worth noting:
Training camp around the corner:
The Dolphins have announced their practice schedule- and a total of 21 will be open to Dol-fanatics if you happen to be in the area. Camp starts off with a two a day on August 2nd, and they continue until August 20th. You can get the full schedule here: http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/top_story.asp?contentID=6502 I'll warn you from personal experience though- bring [...]

Well, it looks like another weird story has come about during this otherwise unusually dull and sleepy off season. It was reported recently that Dolphins 1st round pick Vontae Davis was arrested on June 9th in his college town of Champaign, Illinois (for vehicular noise?). I know what you are thinking- "how is that weird?! I knew that guy was trouble, and he couldn't even make it through the off season!" Well, as Lee Corso would say, not so fast my friend. While Vontae was seen as a bit of a primmadonna, he was never in any trouble off the field- and it doesn't look like he was this time either. You see, there is one slight problem with this story. The time of the alleged incident was about 6:45 p.m. Per the Miami Dolphins, Vonatae was at a rookie orientation until 3:30 [...]

Alright, so now that we've done a brief overview of the entire Dolphins draft class, I'd like to take a more in depth look at some of our draft picks - and what better place to start than at the top with our first pick of 2009, Vontae Davis.
Let's start with the basics. At the combine, he measured in at 5'-11" (and change) tall, and about 205 lbs. Overall he looked very muscular, and carries that weight very well. He ran a so-so 4.49 in the 50 yard dash, but improved that to an outstanding 4.40 flat at his Pro Day. He also benched 225 lbs twenty five times, which is a pretty outstanding number for a cornerback. In addition to being relatively tall, he also has a nice wingspan and large hands.
Next, I'd like to take a look at his college production.

Well, the draft has come and gone, and even with a few days to digest the picks all I can say is "Wow!" I said this draft would be unpredictable, and that was about the only thing I predicted correctly about it.
As a graduate of the University of Florida, I was of course hoping we would take Percy Harvin. My head, however, said we would probably take a linebacker in the first round followed by a few cornerbacks, some more guys in the trenches, and maybe a slight chance at a wide receiver in the later stages of day two. Did anybody see what actually happened coming? Lets do a brief recap of our weekend:
In the first round, a cornerback who was widely regarded as a top 10 talent fell to us because of concerns about his character - and so we snapped up Vontae Davis at 25. Two [...]
