Tom Heckert

The more off season deals the Cleveland Browns make, what positions they will target in the draft becomes clearer. Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert have been very busy the last few weeks making several deals addressing the team's needs. With the addition of new quarterbacks Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme, Cleveland is probably going to draft a QB. Neither Wallace or Delhomme can be viewed as the franchise QB Holmgren is looking for. Sam Bradford is someone Holmgren has openly said he likes a lot. He will not be there when the Browns pick at number seven. If they don't trade up then I look for them to take a QB in the second round. Colt McCoy or Tim Tebow would be my guess if that happens. Cleveland also signed right tackle Tony Pashos. He is expected to start at right tackle so [...] Continue reading →
The Cleveland Browns have needs on both sides of the ball. Some solutions to these needs may already be on the team, they just have to be developed a little more. Some may not. Through free agency and the draft, Cleveland must fill those needs. With Mike Holmgren stating his plans for building an offense, will Cleveland be drafting mostly on that side of the ball? Corner back Joe Haden from Florida and safety Eric Berry from Tennessee (if he's still there), seem to be the consensus number one pick on most Browns mock draft lists. Can anyone safely predict Holmgren won't get offensive with his first pick? "Quarterback is the most important position on the team." Both Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert have made this statement several times since joining the Browns. A strong [...] Continue reading →
Mike Holmgren is close to hiring former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator, Gil Haskell, as an adviser to  Holmgren. Haskell who's 66, has worked for Holmgren in both Green Bay and Seattle as both a position coach and an offensive coordinator. It is assumed Haskell will have a lot of input regarding the Browns off season decision making on the offensive side of the ball. If Haskell does indeed join the Browns, it looks more and more like Cleveland will be running some version of the west coast offense. It also makes me wonder if current offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll, will be on a short leash. It sure appears as if Holmgren fully intends to reshape Cleveland's offense, which ranked near the bottom of the NFL in every offensive statistic except rushing yards. Both Daboll [...] Continue reading →
While waiting for weather to warm up here in Ohio, I couldn't help thinking about how to fix the Cleveland Browns quarterback position. After looking at the top quarterbacks in the upcoming NFL draft, I had another thought. Trade. With Tom Heckert now the Browns new GM, could Donovan McNabb be coming as well? It may not be that far fetched. Heckert was hired by the Browns after spending the last eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and knows McNabb well. It is thought that Andy Reid may be willing to trade either Kevin Kolb or McNabb. With Kolb being younger and showing promise, he might be the choice to stay. McNabb is 33 but is still playing well. I can't help but imagine how Cleveland's offense would look with McNabb at QB. The Browns rushed for an average of  228 yards a [...] Continue reading →
This is the first article in a five part series breaking down the rebuilding process for the Seattle Seahawks organization this off season. Starting with the front office and finding their GM to build the framework for a Super Bowl team. Second will be the coaching staff and who the possible GM's would hire. Third will be breaking down the current roster and who is staying and who is going. Fourth will be how the Seahawks should attack free agency and who they should sign realistically. Fifth will be the NFL and who they should take with their first four picks. Then there will be a concluding article summing up what the Seahawks roster [...] Continue reading →
This is news coming down within the hour. The city of Seattle has been shining bright on the sports map these past two weeks with the acquisitions of Cy Young award winner Cliff Lee and 2008 ASG MVP Milton Bradley to the Seattle Mariners (MLB) and having Jake Locker officially announce that he would return to the University of Washington for his senior season it seemed like something from the Seahawks had to come. Since announcing that he wanted to return to the game he left two years ago after he retired as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Mike Holmgren wanted to become the next [...] Continue reading →
As a follow up to my last article which talked about the possible GM's for Seahawks after former GM Tim Ruskell resigned on December 2nd. A key statement at the Ruskell press conference was when Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke said "I fully expect Jim Mora to be the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks next season". Now that is not set in stone, no matter how much Leiweke wants it. Depending on who the Seahawks chose to hire as the new GM of the Seattle Seahawks, I would put my money on the slot that the new GM would want "his guy" as the head coach. Unless Jim Mora Jr. gets his [...] Continue reading →
On December 2nd Seahawks President of Football Operations and General Manager Tim Ruskell resigned with only three months left on a five year contract. There had been reports that the Seahawks wouldn't retain Ruskell after seasons end so Ruskell decided to do the fair thing and not let it drag out any longer. At the press conference where Ruskell, and Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke talked about the fact that it came down to not winning enough games and that the team wanted and needed to go in a new direction. Ruskell replaced former Seahawks GM Bob Whitsitt after he was fired in 2005. Now Tod [...] Continue reading →
