Tom Coughlin

Sorry, Patriots fans.  But for the third consecutive season, the 1SKILLZ Gameplan predicted the end of the New England Patriots' season.  The New York Giants defeated the Patriots 21-17, and Giants QB Eli Manning (30/40, 296 yards, 1 TD, no INTs) won the Super Bowl MVP award, outplaying Patriots QB Tom Brady (27/41, 276 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT). This was a game that the Patriots defense stepped up and played well enough to win, save for three things: *Awful 12-men penalty that negated a fumble recovery, leading to Giants' first TD. *Patriots failed to recover two other fumbles, including Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw's 4th quarter fumble that Patriots SS James [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
Finally, the heat is over!  Super Bowl XLVI is this Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN.  The NFC champion New York Giants (12-7, #4 seed) will face the New England Patriots, champions of the AFC (15-3, #1 seed), in a rematch of Super Bowl XLII and (more importantly) Week 9 of the 2011 NFL season.  No comment on the Giants/Patriots preseason finale, except that the Giants are probably who the Patriots think they are.  Will they once again let them off the hook? The Giants won the NFC championship on the home turf of [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The holiday season couples many of the things we covet most in life—family, friends, faith, food and football. Christmas reminds us that miracles can happen and that God is always here to light the way in the darkness. It’s also important to remember that it always feels better to give than to receive. On behalf of everyone at GridironGrit.com and NFLTouchdown.com, we hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas (and Happy Hanukkah) and enjoy a Happy New Year! Week 16 was [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
Remember how folks said the New York Giants 17-14 Super Bowl XLII win over the then-undefeated New England Patriots was a fluke?  How many said that if you played that game 10 times, the Patriots would have won the remaining nine? Maybe this game at Gillette Stadium between the New York Giants and New England Patriots proves that what happened in Glendale in February 2008 was no fluke.  In fact, the game played out almost exactly like the Super Bowl as Giants QB Eli Manning answered a late go-ahead Tom Brady TD pass with his second 4th quarter TD pass to give the Giants a 24-20 win. For the Patriots, this game was maddening.  Everyone will blame it on the defense, and they wouldn't be wrong.  The defense had a simple job, and that was to hold a three-point lead under two minutes [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , ,
The New York Giants (5-2) will visit the New England Patriots (5-2) in a Super Bowl XLII rematch at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, November 6.  This is the second interconference game the Patriots will play at home this season, while the Giants are on the road for the first time in over a month.  While the Patriots are starting to round off the toughest part of their schedule at midseason, the Giants are just now entering the tough road ahead as they sit atop the NFC East by two games. The Giants are coming off of a 20-17 win at home against the winless Miami Dolphins; Giants QB Eli Manning (31/45, 349 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT) found WR Victor Cruz (99 yards and a TD on 7 catches) for the go-ahead TD and the Giants defense had five sacks.  The Patriots lost on the road to the Pittsburgh [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
Over the last 20 years Kevin Gilbride has been the quarterbacks coach or the offensive coordinator for six different teams in NFL!  The constant landscape change would lead you to believe his services are not well regarded. For five years Gilbride ran the run and shoot in Houston.  Run and shoot!  That puts the fear in me even as I write it.  Yes, the team had huge offensive numbers but that was Warren Moon. Last time I checked, Warren Moon was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  I'm gonna stick with my theory that Moon made Gilbride look pretty good. Gilbride isn't even know for offensive prowess...instead his most famous moment was being punched in the face by Buddy [...] Continue reading → | , , , ,
With the 2011 NFL Preseason well underway, I thought it would be fun to skip ahead a few chapters and orchestrate an early comprehensive preview of the 2011 NFL regular season with record predictions for all 32 teams.  I’m going way beyond your typical predictions. While most that cover this engaging and highly-debatable topic possess extensive knowledge and realistic expectations for the entire league, they don’t actually objectively gauge every single game on the schedule and come up with the correct win-loss ratio for the NFL—256-256. Additional Ingredients: Game-By-Game predictions for all 32 teams, and it wouldn’t be complete without bold surprises.  Some might make you laugh, scream, perhaps throw up, or even cause you [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
I hope he makes.  I hope he restores his good name. But what an uphill battle he faces. From a football standpoint..."age" goes against Tiki. Even the most well conditioned athlete's slow down as they get older; however, they are still athletic and competitive...but a changing athlete. Metabolism and flexibility just changes. The healing process slows down and diet becomes everything So, even if Tiki is a work out freak, which I believe he is...the mental part of the game is a HUGE part of the conversation. Every guy I spoke with about this situation mentioned the same thing.  There is..."IN SHAPE" and "FOOTBALL IN SHAPE". [...] Continue reading → | , , , , ,
Between the notebook pages, the stats and the film there is a poison that is undetected.  This poison has drained the Giants offense and there winning ways for three years.  That overlooked key element is...Attitude. This offense has no swagger. This team should be able to close out games with ease and crush opponents at will.  Why is attitude so important?  Because the New York Giants have one of the most talented offenses in the NFL, but clearly lack the keys to start the engine. The New York Giants need a new offensive coordinator. An Offensive Coordinator that understands today's NFL, which is a passing, creative, go up top and repeat until you stop it... type of offense.   The Giants need youth.  Kevin Gilbride has done an adequate job but The NY Giants [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , ,
