Has anyone taken the time to appreciate Eli Manning this year? Sure, No. 10 is flying below the radar, and I'm sure everyone likes it that way, but we should at least muster up a round of applause or a pat on the back for Mr. Eli Manning. Yes, it's not over...but what an impressive campaign to date! What do Nicks, Boss, Manningham, Smith, Hixon, Hagan, Bradshaw, Beckum, Jacobs, and Pascoe all have in common? They all caught passes from Eli Manning in the thumping of the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.  That's nine different receivers! Yes, Eli Manning is having a career year, and his grasp of this offense and his personnel have matured through spreading the ball around. Eli currently has career highs in completion percentage and yards per attempt, and by [...] Continue reading →
The Carolina Panthers may have finally found a formula for success in 2009: chaos.  Steve Smith called the Panthers' no-huddle offense they displayed on Sunday "controlled chaos," saying that the fast paced ever-changing game plan kept the Falcons' defenders guessing all afternoon.  Jake Delhomme handled the two minute-like offense masterfully, as he usually does, and completed his third straight game without a turnover. Speaking of Smith, the frustrated wideout caught his second and third touchdown passes of the year on Sunday, both four-yard hits from Delhomme.  Delhomme finished the day 15-of-24 for 195 yards and those two touchdowns, completing 62.5% of his passes and heading home with a quarterback rating of 115.8.  It was Delhomme's first game this season that saw him end up [...] Continue reading →
The Carolina Panthers, for a day at least, looked like the Carolina Panthers of old. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart combined to chew up 245 yards on the ground and the Panthers rushed for a total of 270 yards, good for second-best in franchise history. The Panthers' defense was everywhere on Sunday, proving to be equally as involved in the impressive 34-21 win as the offense. There are some wildly ironic numbers that can be found on the stat sheet from Sunday's game.  Kurt Warner, Jake Delhomme's close friend and mentor from their NFL Europe days, turned in a performance that was nearly identical to Delhomme's in last year's playoff loss to the Cardinals.  Warner completed 27 of 46 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns. It starts to get weird when you look at what [...] Continue reading →
Tough week 6 battle...a showdown of 2 of the 5 unbeaten teams! Giants and Saints both had gaping question marks regarding their respective potent offensives coming into this season. The Giants with their wide receiver core...who will step up in the absence of Buress and Toomer??? While the Saints were dealing with concerns coming from runningbacks. Would the Saints be able to find someone to compliment Bush's dynamic play-making-ability in the back field? Both teams have silenced critics and dropped questionmarks, in place of excalmation points!!! The Giants wide outs have done a spectacular job - with a few indidivuals really stepping up their game with Mario Manningham and (the other) Steve Smith reeling in a combined57 catches. While the Saints running attack has been phenominal [...] Continue reading →
The Carolina Panthers continued their depressing start to the 2009 season by losing their third consecutive game on Monday Night Football in Dallas. The Cowboys overcame a shaky first half to score 21 unanswered points in the second half and beat a Panthers team that is nosediving quickly less than a quarter of the way through the season. For Panthers fans, Monday night's loss was likely the most disconcerting of the young season to date as the team played uninspired football in the second half against a Cowboys team who was begging to be beat. The numbers are startling from any angle you choose to look at them. Let's get right into 'The Elevator' and try to figure out just what in the world is wrong with this team. Going Up... /\  Dante Rosario. [...] Continue reading →
The Carolina Panthers suffered their second consecutive loss to open the 2009 season on Sunday, but did so in a manner that was far less depressing than their Week 1 debacle.  The Atlanta Falcons, donning throwback uniforms from the 1966 season, beat the Panthers 28-10 in the Georgia Dome. The main issue for the Panthers on Sunday was their defense.  Falcons' quarterback Matt Ryan could likely get away with not washing his uniform after he was relatively unaffected by the Panthers' fruitless pass rush.  Ryan finished the day with 220 yards on 21-of-27 passing with three touchdowns and an interception. The Falcons were also able to move the ball on the ground, as they gained a team total of 151 yards--105 of which were picked up by Michael Turner. The Panthers main problem on [...] Continue reading →
