Randy Moss

Welcome ladies and gents to the 2010 New England Patriots offseason.  I'm happy to be back at it again, as money is getting exchanged in this uncapped free agency period.  It's been another minute since the last time you all have heard from me, and my plan is to not give you all 2,000 words.  That said, this is the time of the year where plans start getting adjusted by external factors!  I'll call these reports the Hindsight Reports because all we are going to do is look back on them and judge.  Let me catch you all up on what's been up the last couple of weeks (besides the Combine, more on that jazz later): -WR Randy Moss conceded that 2010 will most likely be his last season in New England: I think what is interesting about this is that Moss' cited the fact that New England [...] Continue reading →
Hello, everyone.  It's been awhile since I've gotten to say that, so I guess there are some good things about Snowpacalypse 2010!  Now that the 2010 NFL season is officially over (now do you appreciate the Pro Bowl being over and done with before the big game?!), I'd like to reintroduce an article that I wrote a long time, way back in the last decade ("1999 A.D., New England Patriots B.B.", December 26, 2009): With a week left in the Y2K decade, there have been many who wish to ponder which team should stand as the representative of the NFL team of the 2000s.  I honestly don’t feel like writing that article right now, at least not until this season ends.  What I will say now is that unless the [...] Continue reading →
The first game in the year 2010 will be the last game of the regular season as the 8-7 Houston Texans host the 10-5 New England Patriots on Sunday, January 3, at Reliant Stadium.  While the Patriots have locked up the AFC East already, this happens to be the biggest game in Houston Texans franchise history.  The Texans still have a chance to make the AFC playoffs, but they do not control their own destiny.  In addition to a win, the Texans need at least two losses from these three teams: the Baltimore Ravens (at Oakland), Denver Broncos (hosting Kansas City), and New York Jets (hosting Cincinnati).  I don't like the Texans' chances, but I'm not here to talk about the Texans' playoff hopes, just their matchup with the Patriots.  Now, the Patriots also have something to play for, as [...] Continue reading →
For all of the talk about the New England Patriots' struggles this season, they put together one of their most complete games of the season Sunday, defeating the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars 35-7 to clinch the AFC East division.  They will host a playoff game at Gillette Stadium in January, where they went a perfect 8-0 this season. Less than two years after completing 26 of 28 passes for 262 yards and three TDs against the Jaguars in the 2007 playoffs, Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 23 of 26 passes for 267 yards and 4 TDs!  There's just something about the Jaguars secondary that makes Brady want to throw more TDs than incompletions.  The Jaguars had no answer for WRs Wes Welker and Randy Moss, who accounted for 69% of Brady's yards.  Welker caught 13 passes for 138 yards; [...] Continue reading →
The New England Patriots won on the road finally, a 17-10 win against the Buffalo Bills.  The wins are getting uglier and uglier for the Patriots, but at this point of the season, wins are more important than looking good.  If and (most likely) when the Patriots make the playoffs, they'll have to decide what to do about an offense that has been very inconsistent ever since Randy Moss' 4th quarter TD against the Indianapolis Colts, and they'll probably have to also figure out how to defend a playoff caliber QB.  The only team the Patriots have beaten with a winning record at this point of the season has been QB Joe Flacco's Baltimore Ravens, and they're not a lock to make the playoffs just yet. But for now?  The Patriots win over the Bills could represent a turning point in terms of [...] Continue reading →
It took awhile, but New England Patriots WR Randy Moss has done it.  With his embarrassing effort against the Carolina Panthers following a bad morning during the week, Moss has become a malcontent in New England after it appeared that the presence of head coach Bill Belichick and QB Tom Brady would prevent that from happening.  With the Patriots playing the Buffalo Bills Sunday on the road, I couldn't help but compare Moss with the other premier prima donna WR of the decade, Terrell Owens.  The fiery receiver hasn't made much noise on or off the field this season, but since his arrival in March the Bills have fired head coach Dick Jauron, fired offensive coordinator Turk [...] Continue reading →
The Buffalo Bills visited the Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday and escaped with a victory improving their record to 5-8 overall and 2-1 under new head coach Perry Fewell. Needless to say, a win is a win but it wasn't pretty. Coming into the game, the Chiefs only had three wins themselves so we can say very comfortably that this game wasn't going to be a potential postseason game or [...] Continue reading →
What a weird season for the New England Patriots.  Even a 20-10 win over the Carolina Panthers doesn't quite feel like a victory.  That's what happens when Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has to spend time addressing his roster decisions (RE: OLB Adalius Thomas getting benched).  That's what happens when we have to wonder if QB Tom Brady made it through a game without a new injury (or baby).  That's what happens when the other three AFC East teams also win.  And that's what happens when Panthers defensive backs are commenting on the visible difference of effort between Patriots WRs Randy Moss and Wes Welker. The victory puts the Patriots at 8-5 and they maintain their one game lead on the AFC East with three games remaining, but the seeds of dissension have been planted [...] Continue reading →
This is getting crazy.  The New England Patriots will play their seventh undefeated opponent of the season when they visit the 10-0 New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.  The Patriots started the season playing the 0-0 Buffalo Bills, 1-0 New York Jets, 2-0 Atlanta Falcons, 3-0 Baltimore Ravens, and 4-0 Denver Broncos.  Of course, they played the 8-0 Indianapolis Colts in Week 10 on Sunday Night Football.  The 1SKILLZ Gameplan will be released later in the week, but for now I wanted to focus on comparing the Saints' #1 scoring offense this season with that of the 2007 New England Patriots.  That Patriots team scored an NFL record 589 points while going 16-0 in the regular season before losing Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants 17-14. This year's Saints are averaging 36.9 [...] Continue reading →
I went into work this morning knowing I had to eventually write an article trying to make sense of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick's decision to leave his offense on the field on 4th and 2 at their own 28 yard line with no timeouts ahead of the 2:00 warning. You've all at least heard about the play by now: QB Tom Brady lined up in shotgun, emptied the backfield by sending RB Kevin Faulk out in the slot on WR Randy Moss' side of the field, and threw a quick out to Faulk. Faulk caught it, but not cleanly enough to be given forward progress on the play after Indianapolis Colts SS Melvin Bullitt hit him as the ball arrived. The Patriots couldn't challenge the play, and Colts QB Peyton Manning ultimately threw the game-tyingTD pass to WR Reggie Wayne with 13 seconds [...] Continue reading →
