Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner released a statement Monday evening saying the Browns have reached an agreement to make Mike Holmgren the new team President. Lerner said they will take the rest of the week to finalize the details and make a formal announcement next week.
Holmgren will bring much needed football experience to the top of the Browns organization. While head coach at Green Bay, he took the Packers to two Super Bowls, winning one. He then took Seattle to a Super Bowl as their head coach. In all, Holmgren has spent 17 years as a head coach in the NFL, compiling a record of 170-111.
Cleveland has lacked an experienced, football person to guide the franchise since their return to the NFL in 1999. Hopefully Holmgren will be the guy that turns the Cleveland [...]

While Randy Lerner continues to search for his football, "Czar", he needs to score a touchdown with this guy. Whoever comes in needs to have the knowledge of how to put together a football team, the power needed to hold people accountable and the foresight to see what's already in place. The Browns don't need somebody with a huge ego, that's going to come in and tear everything up.
The Browns organization needs proven guidance from the top. That has been the major need since Ernie Accorsi left Cleveland in 1992. Getting the right man in place is a must. Lerner cannot afford to fumble the ball this time.
At first glance, if you look at the entire season and the 2-11 record, most will think a major over haul is needed. If you break it down into separate parts, you have to be [...]

The first year of the Eric Mangini Era is winding down with just five games to go. With a record of 1-10, will this be the only year for Mangini as the Browns head coach? If so, he has only himself to blame.
First let me say I'm not in favor of firing coaches without given the time needed to establish their system and to collect the players for that system. The situation currently in Cleveland is a different animal. The Browns organization has been in turmoil since the expansion year of 1999. Cleveland has failed to build from the top down, thus has been forced to rebuild every few years. The lack of a smart football "Czar" heading things up from the top of the organization continues to be the major weakness. Randy Lerner and the loyal Cleveland Browns fans have been paying dearly [...]

Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner is not happy. His team has been an embarrassment this season. On Monday, a day after His Browns lost 30-6 to the Chicago Bears, Lerner fired GM George Kokinis. The firing of Kokinis will likely not be the only change as Lerner has vowed to hire a “strong, credible, serious leader to guide decisions in a far more conspicuous, open transparent way.” This leader could come in the form of a General Manager or team President. Which means he’s tired of Eric Mangini being the soul decision maker and only voice of the team.
When he was hired after last season, Mangini’s choice as a GM was his long time friend George Kokinis. Since then, little has been heard of Kokinis as Mangini seems to be making all the decisions. With a record of 1-7, those [...]

You might think that I'm telling you that Brady Quinn is the 2009 Cleveland Browns starter because of yesterday's Cleveland Plain DealerReport from Tony Grossi's blog, right? Think again. Tony Grossi is a clown who knows little and does a good job speculating in an attempt to sell newspapers. In case you didn't read it, here was the meat and potatoes of the entry:
I offer up this tidbit for the enjoyment of those [...]
