The Cardinals crushed Minnesota and handed them their second loss of the season when people were saying the Vikings were the most complete team in football, beat the Giants and handed them their second loss of the season when people were saying they were the best team in football, and lost to Green Bay when they weren't playing. The Packers lost to Minnesota twice in what were arguably their two most meaningful games of their year, beat Dallas when the Cowboys were playing their worst ball of the year, and lost to a Pittsburgh team that couldn't beat Oakland, Kansas City or Cleveland in the weeks leading up to their [...] Continue reading →
Minnesota hosts the New York Giants in an early Sunday game, and the outcome will dictate the Arizona Cardinals' game plan for their later game slot against the Green Bay Packers. If the Vikings win the Cardinals will surely fall back on plan B, which will be to rest key players and keep the game plan as plain as Breyer's vanilla bean ice cream. With the strong likelihood of facing the Packers the following week on the same field in the first round of the playoffs, it would be foolish to reveal too much to Green Bay. If the Vikings lose, the Cardinals will be gunning for the #2 NFC seed. Of course, they will [...] Continue reading →
You have to like the Cardinals chances to bounce back after losing on Monday Night Football to the 49ers despite the short week and having to travel East. They haven't lost two games in a row this season and have won 5 of their 8 games on the road. They are facing a Detroit Lions team that not only has just two wins, but is without their starting QB, RB and possibly WR. Matthew Stafford is still out with an ailing shoulder, Kevin Smith is on IR, and Calvin Johnson is questionable. There are some Cardinals injuries of note that will most definitely effect the outcome of this game and maybe more. While it appears Larry Fitzgerald is healthy enough to start and play after suffering what looked like a bad knee injury last game, Safety Matt Ware will not. [...] Continue reading →
The media is fickle. That much is a given. It is boggling though how former players and coaches alike, presumed experts about everything football and particularly NFL football, can give off such amateur assessments sometimes. The example I provide here is not even that shocking necessarily, but it is relevant anyway. Watch this clip before reading on: So the conclusion by our ESPN analysts is that the Vikings will win because: 1) The Vikings don't have any weaknesses. 2) Brett Favre is playing great. 3) Arizona has a 2-3 record at home. 4) The Vikings are great at stopping the run and rushing the passer. Let [...] Continue reading →
What has happened to the once great franchise that Mike Holmgren and Bob Ferguson built from 1999 to 2005 when the Seahawks went to their first and only Super Bowl? The 2009 Seahawks have picked up were the "Ruskell disaster" left off in 2008. The Seahawks are currently 3-7, third place in the NFC West ahead of only the St Louis Rams who are a measly 1-9. One of the Seahawks three wins has come against the Rams, back in week one when this team actually had passion and heart for both themselves and for their head coach Jim Mora Jr. The Seahawks defeated the St Louis Rams 28-0 in what is still their worst [...] Continue reading →
Happy Thanksgiving!  The start of "Holiday Season" is today, a festive time of the year that extends from Thanksgiving until New Year's Day.  It is also the time of the year when the National Football League playoff picture starts to intensify with almost every game.  On Monday Night Football at the Louisiana Superdome, the 10-0 New Orleans Saints will host the 7-3 New England Patriots which may very well be the last Monday Night Football game of the season to feature two playoff teams. The Patriots defeated the New York Jets last week 31-14 at home to bring their record in the AFC East to 3-1.  The Patriots forced Jets QB Mark Sanchez into five turnovers and Patriots WR [...] Continue reading →
The Bills are coming off an impressive victory last week. Wait a minute, they didn't even play. Why do I feel like they lost though? Well, the losses are coming compliments of the injury bug (pictured to the right) which has bitten everyone in the last few weeks especially on defense. Here is a list of injures in past few weeks. Terrell Owens (no surprise). I think this one was caused by him stubbing his toe. No wait, he took a nap and woke [...] Continue reading →
Hey fans, yes, the rumors are true about Michael Vick's adviser, former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy expressing his personal interest about Vick joining the Buffalo Bills next year. In the same conversation, the Bills were also in the mix of acquiring Vick's services before the season started along with Bengals. This of course, was after his prison sentence for dog fighting was completed. Now, I am not saying that the rumors for next season have been completely thrown out the window, but when it comes right down to it, the Bills have two starting QBs already, Edwards and Fitzpatrick. Furthermore, what has Vick done this year for the Eagles that could contribute to the success of the Bills next season? Vick, has completed 2 of 6 passes for 6 yards and rushed 12 times for 27 [...] Continue reading →
The 2009 preseason is now finished and in the books. Now all 32 NFL teams will turn their attention to what really matters and that is the 2009 regular season and with one goal in winning the super bowl. Two of the four worst teams (record wise) will be facing off in a week one division battle. The Seattle Seahawks (4-12 last season) and the St Louis Rams (2-14 last season) square off in an important game for the Seattle Seahawks if they want to get back the NFC West title. For the St Louis Rams this is really just a game where they don't want to lose any players to injury because with the moves the Rams have made they [...] Continue reading →
After crushing (and quick) postseason exits in 2004 and 2006, the Chargers fired coach Marty Schottenheimer and replaced him with Norv Turner. A shock for many, San Diego's sedevacante was filled with Turner despite the fact that sexier names such as Bill Cowher and Bill Parcells were available during the off-season. Turner, who had installed the Chargers current offensive system in 2001—his lone year as San Diego's offensive coordinator—had since departed to take several jobs, most notably the head coaching position at Oakland where he went a dismal 9-23 over two seasons. In 2007,  upon taking the job in San Diego, Turner made good on fulfilling the first objective: winning in the playoffs. Turner's first season featured two postseason wins, including an [...] Continue reading →
