Pat White

Well,  I've kind of been waiting for this news to come out before I took a look back to the Tampa game or forward to Carolina tomorrow night.  Well, the news is in and it is as bad as it possibly could have been.  Even at 4-5 we were second in the division by virtue of sweeping the Jets, and had an outside shot of making the Playoffs.  That task just got a LOT tougher. As you are probably already aware, Ronnie Brown went out of the game after a long run that ended in a fumble.  At first, it looked like he had twisted his ankle- which is what I was hoping and praying for.  Today, however, my worst fears were realized- Ronnie Brown is being placed on IR with an undisclosed foot injury (Lisfranc anyone?). Ronnie was responsible for 648 rushing yards (47% of total rushing yards, [...] Continue reading →
I'm not going to be a classless lout and say the Dolphins lost this game.  Don't get me wrong- we played well enough to win for spurts and stretches.  It was a close game, but ultimately the more talented team won.  The team fought valiantly, our young players had some bright moments, but when push came to shove we once again couldn't keep up.  With well over 2 minutes to go and only a touchdown needed to tie the game, we once again saw untimely drops by our sub par receivers, and an inability to run the ball even when the Patriots were set up to defend the pass.  When you're up against Tom Brady and Randy Moss, you have to make all the plays you can because you know they will (a la Moss' ridiculous one handed catch with Vontae draped all over him). Our draft needs are becoming [...] Continue reading →
Well, if you wanted to see what Chad Henne has to offer this year, you've got it.  Reports are surfacing (first reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen, who is close to Parcells) that Pennington has a torn capsule in his shoulder (see here for an explanation of the injury and its treatment).)  You really have to feel for the guy;  this is the third shoulder injury he's had in his career.  He was a huge part of our turn around last year, he is the epitome of class, and set a great example for the young QBs, WR's, and O-lineman on the team by taking them in for extra film study. Basically, he is going to need season ending arthroscopic surgery- so while he may be able to play again in the future, his time as a Dolphin is [...] Continue reading →
The unusually quiet off season has continued for the Dolphins.  Its a bad thing for writers and bloggers, but overall a great thing for fans.  As they say- no news is good news.  That means no one associated with the team is holding out, getting arrested, or generally making an ass of themself in public.  There are, however, a few things worth noting: Training camp around the corner: The Dolphins have announced their practice schedule- and a total of 21 will be open to Dol-fanatics if you happen to be in the area.  Camp starts off with a two a day on August 2nd, and they continue until August 20th.  You can get the full schedule here:  http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/top_story.asp?contentID=6502  I'll warn you from personal experience though- bring [...] Continue reading →
After the Dolphins drafted Pat White, even a soccer fan could tell you that the Dolphins planned on expanding the WildCat playbook next year.  It was obvious by years end that teams had learned to make Ronnie Brown beat them with his arm, as they stacked the box and blitzed every gap which severely limited the effectiveness of the WildCat formation.  While some thought that the WildCat was dead after it fizzled out as the year wore on, the use of a high second round draft pick on Pat White clearly refutes that.  Simply put, you don't waste a second round pick on a developmental WR/KR that has never caught a pass or fielded a kick.  White was an explosive zone-read/spread QB in college,  clearly this regime plans on getting White on the field as the WildCat triggerman. The big [...] Continue reading →
Its pretty rare to see a franchise's most talked about draft pick come in the second round- but the selection of Pat White has made the drafting of Vontae Davis almost an afterthought.  From what I have seen, the selection of Pat White has polarized many Dolphins fans.  Some absolutely hate they pick;  these people mostly see him as an inexperienced receiver who will possibly take 3 or 4 snaps a game from the WildCat formation, if that many.  Other people (myself included) love this pick,- believing that White will be an X-factor next year, and will be a legitimate competitor to Chad Henne for the full time QB position. As I said, I fall firmly into the camp that believes White will be a huge contributor to the offense.  Some feel that the WildCat is just a passing fad, and was [...] Continue reading →
Well, the draft has come and gone, and even with a few days to digest the picks all I can say is "Wow!" I said this draft would be unpredictable, and that was about the only thing I predicted correctly about it. As a graduate of the University of Florida, I was of course hoping we would take Percy Harvin.  My head, however, said we would probably take a linebacker in the first round followed by a few cornerbacks, some more guys in the trenches, and maybe a slight chance at a wide receiver in the later stages of day two.  Did anybody see what actually happened coming?  Lets do a brief recap of our weekend: In the first round, a cornerback who was widely regarded as a top 10 talent fell to us because of concerns about his character - and so we snapped up Vontae Davis at 25.  Two [...] Continue reading →
