NFL draft

Mock drafts are silly guesses that mean absolutely nothing. As college basketball fans watch their NCAA brackets crumble under huge upsets, it only goes to show that even the most well-informed predictions bow humbly to crushing reality. Yet, eager for the NFL draft to begin I succumb to the meaningless speculations as most true fans do. The intent is to be informed enough to get excited when management’s decisions coincide with my own desires, while embracing optimism when selections go contrary to my whims. Fans will not execute the picks for Kansas City on April 22-24, but they have every right to their opinions. With an increasing number of analysts predicting Sam Bradford to go number one overall it appears more likely that offensive tackle Russell Okung, safety Eric [...] Continue reading →
Early in the day Wednesday the Arizona Cardinals came to an agreement with free agent quarterback Derek Anderson on a two-year $7.25 million dollar contract which ended the Cardinals pursuit of restricted free agent quarterback Charlie Whitehurst. Charlie Whitehurst's decision came down to the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks and Whitehurst informed the Chargers front office that he wanted to be traded to Seattle. Today the Seahawks and Chargers came to trade agreement for restricted free agent quarterback Charlie Whitehurst. The Seahawks will send their second-round [...] Continue reading →
The Seahawks have officially released veteran safety Deon Grant the team announced this afternoon. Grant joined the Seahawks back in 2007 when he signed a six-year $31.8 million dollar contract which at the time made Grant the third highest paid safety in the NFL behind the Ravens Ed Reed and the Cowboys Roy Williams. Grant was a part of that "home run hitting" free agent class that Seattle attempted to bring in which also included defensive end Patrick Kerney, guard Kris Deilman and tight end Daniel Graham. Graham and Deilman rejected offers to come to Seattle and instead chose Denver and San Diego respectively. Deon Grant was scheduled to make [...] Continue reading →
Disclaimer: Usually journalist and especially good journalist don’t usually use “I” in articles and recently I’ve been trying to improve on that and just stick with reporting. However I’ve decided to try a little experiment and create a new series of articles titled “In my opinion” which will include players, coaches and other aspects of the NFL an give my opinion on those topics. So articles titled “In my opinion” will be the only time I use “I” in an article, but when it comes to reporting on the Seahawks and the draft, “I” won’t be included. Just needed to clear that with this [...] Continue reading →
Over the years the New York Giants have found that the keys to success come from all different types of players with different skill sets, from all over the United States. However, Illinois has been especially good to the Giants. Over the past ten years, the Giants have drafted four stellar players from the Prairie State who are currently contributing to the Giants' winning ways. 1. Rich Seubert - Western Illinois With Amani Toomer gone, Seubert—who was drafted in 2000—is the senior statesman on the Giants. He fractured his leg midseason 2003 and was forced to the sidelines for the remainder of 2003 and the entire 2004 season. With a great work ethic and determination, Rich worked his way back into the starting lineup in 2005. Seubert has teamed [...] Continue reading →
See what happens when you're a cornerback that can't turn your head to play the ball? According to Schefter, the Lions have agreed to swap picks in the 5th round of the 2010 draft and also surrender their 6th rounder for Falcons cornerback Chris Houston. Houston is a talented guy who could be a very solid cornerback in the NFL. His problem is he simply cannot play the ball. Due to that inability, it seems Houstons worn out his welcome. He missed the last five games of the 2009 season due to injury. At the time, I felt it was a nice way of moving rookie Chris Owens into the lineup while allowing Houston to keep his dignity. It's possible I was correct based on Schefters tweet. It's not surprising with the aquisition of Dunta Robinson this weekend. It left an odd man out with Chris [...] Continue reading →
Well, it seems I've had some mixed views of my analysis of the NFL Combine and my push for an outside linebacker for the Falcons #1 overall selection. I'd like to elaborate some. I try and look at the team as a whole and determine where the biggest weakness exists as well as depth on the roster. So even though the weakest link on the Falcons defense may be Jamaal Anderson, the depth behind him isn't terrible. When looking at upgrading the team depth becomes a huge factor. You could have Bo Jackson and Dan Marino starting on your team but the major question is, "What happens if they get injured?" This is where my analysis began. First I looked at the offensive side of the ball. With the exception of the offensive line there is a capable backup at every position. It wouldn't be [...] Continue reading →
As I predicted throughout the season, Terrell Owens will not be returning to Buffalo next season. The Bills announced this week that they will not pick up the second year option on the receiver that Buffalo gave the "key to the city" less than a year ago. Terrell had less then a stellar year with the Bills this past season. Of course, not all of his short comings were his fault. Throughout the season the Bills fired their offensive coordinator two weeks [...] Continue reading →
Well, it's that time of year again. The NFL Draft is around the corner and teams begin the restocking of young talent. The real trick to it is finding those players that are not only talented, but fit your system. The Falcons have either the 19th or 20th pick in this draft depending on a coin flip. So being realistic, my list needed to be based on players that may actually be available. With the NFL combine beginning next week, I've begun preparing my short list of players to observe. Based on needs, character and overall talent these five names stand out to me. 1. Ricky Sapp - Linebacker - Clemson The Falcons currently have Mike Peterson and Stephen Nicholas manning the outside linebacker positions but GM Thomas Dimitroff preaches youth movement. So [...] Continue reading →
In an effort to further inform the readers on NFLtouchdown.com and especially the Seahawks section I’ve decided to have a weekly article about any and all Seahawks notes and rumors from around the league. With the Seahawks being one of the most “link attached” teams this off season it will be interesting to see what unfolds under this new direction of Seahawks football under head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider. With the Seahawks having an owner in Paul Allen, who early in the off season made it apparent that he is not afraid to make a bold statement with a lot of cash attached to that statement. The [...] Continue reading →
