NFC West

Another San Francisco 49er nemesis has retired. The 49er faithful hope this one stays retired. If he does, the NFC West will be wide open in 2010. Early Friday afternoon, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner officially hung up his cleats after a 12-year career that includes two MVPs and three Super Bowl appearances including one Super Bowl ring. Two of the three teams (and the two that saw him lead them to the Super Bowl) Warner played for were division foes of the 49ers. Warner first torched the 49ers as a member of the St. Louis Rams and the "Greatest Show on Turf" and then after a dismal stint with the New York Giants, returned to the NFC West as a member of the Cardinals and decimated the [...] Continue reading →
It is hard to criticize a team after a win that helped enable them to bring home their second consecutive division championship, but playing down to a 2-11 opponent and barely eeking out a victory will never earn high marks. The Arizona Cardinals did just enough to oust the lowly Lions, and the Eagles did their part by bettering the 49ers, to give the Cardinals the NFC West crown and another playoff berth. Here are my grades for their performance. Rushing offense- B With Tim Hightower still battling a thumb injury, it was Beanie Wells who secured the ball and a heavy workload. He responded with his first career 100-yard game as a pro including a 34-yarder and an 18-yard touchdown run. Paying Close Attention To Numbers 2-0 sure does feel good to start the season. Even better, the team is 2-0 in the NFC West after wins over division rivals Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks in weeks one and two. How about some even better numbers for you? Quarterback Shaun Hill is now 9-3 as a starter and remains undefeated at Candlestick Park. How about some more numbers? QB Shaun Hill has an 87.8 QB rating thus far and has thrown zero interceptions, one of only five QBs yet to throw one so far this season. HB Frank Gore is just the second running back of all time to have two touchdown runs of over 75 yards in a single game. The other? Legendary running back Barry Sanders.  Gore also accounts for all four of the team's offensive touchdowns so far this season. [...] Continue reading →
The Arizona Cardinals shocked the NFL nation last year when they flew there way through the playoffs. Even more shocking was the fight they put up against the Pittsburgh Steelers  in Super Bowl XLIII. Only to loose  27-23 on Santonio Holmes' outstanding tip-toe catch in the back of the end zone with just 35 seconds remaining in the game!  Amoment that will never be forgotten in Super Bowl history nor the minds of the Cardinals. The Arizona Caridnals enter the 2009 season looking to repeat as NFC West Division champions, and hopefully a trip to Miami to play for another Super Bowl. However, the Cardinals, like last year, know it wont be easy. If they want to repeat last years success they must continue to use the leadership of veteran quarterback Kurt Warner, who [...] Continue reading →
The NFC West has always been considered a weak division and it still is. Over the last five years, before this season the Seahawks had won the NFC West. Which included a trip to the Super Bowl. Last season the Arizona Cardinals won the NFC West, which was their first playoff appearance since 1998. During the season, the Cardinals won the division only because of their offense. The Cardinals offense had pro bowlers WR Larry [...] Continue reading →
