A very nice thing Bullitt did with his father. According to Yahoo! Sports' blog Shutdown Corner, safety Melvin Bullitt has given his AFC Championship ring to his dad:
[...] rather than dwell on a Super Bowl XLIV loss to New Orleans on Feb. 7, the third-year pro is giving the AFC ring to his father, Jerry.
"I decided that after we lost," Bullitt said Wednesday, in reference to the 31-17 defeat in Miami. "It was really more about how I don't want to accept the fact we didn't reach our goal.
"Each day, it eats at me. Every day. It crosses my mind every day."

Hello, everyone. It's been awhile since I've gotten to say that, so I guess there are some good things about Snowpacalypse 2010! Now that the 2010 NFL season is officially over (now do you appreciate the Pro Bowl being over and done with before the big game?!), I'd like to reintroduce an article that I wrote a long time, way back in the last decade ("1999 A.D., New England Patriots B.B.", December 26, 2009):
With a week left in the Y2K decade, there have been many who wish to ponder which team should stand as the representative of the NFL team of the 2000s. I honestly don’t feel like writing that article right now, at least not until this season ends. What I will say now is that unless the [...]

The Saints WON!
What a game!!!
That first quarter was scary if you were a Saints fan and even going into half time with the score 6-10. But the Saints have been down before and came to win 31-17. One of the most impressive numbers is the fact that the Saints' defense held the Colts' offense to 17 points. The tenacious Jets defense could not even do that, and what is really impressive is that the Saints had a similar game to the one they played against the Vikings in the NFC Championship game. Here are some of the statistics:
Total Yards:
Colts: 432 Saints: 332
3rd Downs:
Colts: 6 out of 13 Saints: 3 out of 9
Rushing: Attempts/Yards/Average
Colts: 19/99/5.2 Saints: 18/51/2.8
Passing: Attempts/ Yards/Average
Colts: 31-45/333/7.4 Saints: [...]

As a Colts fan, this game really disappointed me. But hey, the New Orleans Saints wanted it more. They needed this. After all New Orleans has gone through for the past few years with Hurricane Katrina and all that. Along with that, the Saints were never a good football team. The NFC Championship was the farthest they’ve ever gone before the season started. And they only made the NFC Championship once in their life.
The Saints were undervalued. With losing to teams like the Buccaneers with their starters, the Saints were not favorites entering the playoffs. They proved everyone wrong. And then, the heroics of Tracy Porter came in the NFC Championship game. After that pick, it was over. It happened last night in the Super Bowl, against a high-powered Colts’ team.
The first quarter [...]

Hats off to the New Orleans Saints for winning Super Bowl 44.
They have come a long way since the days of the New Orleans Aints.
The Saints franchise has struggled for most of its existence, and seeing Drew Brees proudly holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy last night shows just how far that franchise has come.
The sight of the Saints players celebrating victory reminded me of another team that came from the bowels of the NFL to ultimately win the sport's richest prize; the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
For years, the Buccaneers were THE biggest joke in the NFL. This was the first team to finish a season winless; in fact the team started off 0-26 until they beat (you guessed it) the Saints.
After a few playoff runs in the late 70s and early 80s, the team became the poster child [...]

WOW!!!
NO New England, NO Dallas, NO San Diego, NO Minnesota, NO Pittsburgh...but there is one NO left...New Orleans is still there...and they are in a prime positions to win this Sunday's game versus the Colts.
This will not be a cake though, the Saints will be facing yet again another hall of fame quarterback. I cannot think of a postseason where I team has had to potentially beat 3-1st-Ballot-Hall of Fame Quarterbacks. Kurt Warner is the only questionable quarterback and the question is more "when" than "if". But that is a discussion for another time. Between Warner, Brett Farve, and Peyton Manning it is hard to get a better trio of quarterbacks and resumes in the business of quarterbacking. Relatively speaking the first two were easy compared to Manning. Farve and Warner are [...]

Just about a week before the Super Bowl, something horrible occurred to the Indianapolis Colts: Dwight Freeney was injured and it is possible that he will not play in the biggest game of the NFL season.
Freeney was having a remarkable year and was huge contributor to the Colts’ defense. But with a possibility of losing him in the Super Bowl, many are worried. But don’t think too far with this. If Freeney does not play, do not be worried. The Colts can handle it, in my opinion.
In 2007, Indianapolis was dominant like this season. But they lost Freeney for like seven games, and they managed to get towards a 13-3 record. The Colts managed roll without No. 93. Yes yes, it would hurt a lot because Indy cannot just rely on Robert Mathis.
93+98=Hell for Drew Brees. That’s what the [...]

It is the classic scenario, who would win talent or heart?
On paper it appears as though the Vikings would have won the game with some of the statistics piled up in last Sunday's NFC Championship game. But the Saints play with unextinguishable fire that fuels the Super Dome and the city of New Orleans....which was evident after the game was over and the streets of downtown New Orleans were flooded, not with water, but with fans cheering in celebration of their team's victory and advancing to the Super Bowl!!!
When you look at the statistics it seems like the Saints should have lost this game by at least a touchdown if not more points. But what the Saints had on their side that game was the thing that they have had on their side all season long....heart. There a ton of categories [...]

It's that time again, my fellow Detroit Lions fans.
The official end of the season is upon us, and you're going to watch. You're a Lions fan, but you're also a football fan, and this promises to be an explosive, well-matched, potentially high-scoring Super Bowl.
But what's in it for you?
Once again, the Lions were out of playoff contention by midseason, and the only talk about the Lions since Week 17 has pertained to the draft in April.
So aside from picking a surrogate team to root for during the playoffs (as we have all learned to do as a self-defense mechanism—don't lie, you know you do it, too), how can we Lions fans enjoy the game as, well, Lions fans?
I have a few ideas, sorted out for the many different types of Lions fans.
For the "Blind [...]

With the Super Bowl a week away, there's some sad news that has started already for the Colts. Star defensive end Dwight Freeney had a torn ligament which would make it difficult for him to play in the Super Bowl against the high-powered offense of the New Orleans Saints.
"He is under the care of our athletic training staff," Team Spokesman Craig Kelley said. "Nothing we have seen changes our diagnosis that he is questionable. He has a third-degree, low basketball sprain."
It means Freeney has a complete tear in the ankle ligament. I see the Dwight playing. I doubt he will not play this game. 100 percent, actually. But even if Freeney does play in my mind, it's going to be questionable of how effective he will be.
"He has had injuries before where they said [he's] not going to [...]
