Michael Crabtree

Less than six months ago, Alex Smith, San Francisco's first overall draft choice from 2005, had been beaten out for the 49ers' starting quarterback spot by career journeyman Shaun Hill. After two straight injury filled seasons, Smith's future as an NFL starter seemed incredibly bleak after losing the quarterback competition in training camp. Heading into the 2009 season the 49ers were looking to play a hard-hitting defensive style while eating up the clock on offense with star running back Frank Gore. Fortunately for Smith, this type of football stopped working five games into the season when San Francisco was [...] Continue reading →
In my first installment of my 2010 NFL Mock draft I received a lot of comments with people speaking out about two or three of my picks. Mainly Tim Tebow going sixth to the Seattle Seahawks, Gerald McCoy 12th to the Miami Dolphins and Jahvid Best 21st to the New York Jets. So far no new big names have thrown their name into the 2010 draft pool. However I would like to point out that UW quarterback Jake Locker IS NOT going to be in the 2010 mock draft. I have seen at least five or more mock drafts in the last few days with Locker still in them. So with that being said [...] Continue reading →
I had the opportunity just a couple days ago to give a phone interview to legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice. Rice is working with Gillette and the NFL to give fans behind-the-scenes looks into selected team locker rooms to try and get the fans closer to the game. The promotion also offers the chance to win tickets to the 2010 Super Bowl and a lot of other cool things. For more information on the promotion head over to NFL.com/LockerRoom and sign up to win and get exclusive access. I got a chance to ask him a few questions regarding this promotion, his own experiences in the locker room and his upcoming Hall of Fame eligibility. We also touch up a few times on the current state of the San Francisco 49ers and of course, head coach Mike Singletary and our young receiver in Michael [...] Continue reading →
Since his days at Texas Tech Wide Receiver Michael Crabtree has been loaded with talk. Rated in the top five by countless scouts and NFL analyst coming into the 2009 NFL Draft, Michael Crabtree was looking like a sure top five lock with the St Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks holding three of the top four picks in the draft. However, as we have seen in recent NFL Draft's, hype doesn't guarantee anything. Brady Quinn was a sure lock at 9th overall to the Miami Dolphins. He took a huge draft day fall and landed at 22nd when the Cleveland Browns and Phil Savage traded back into the first round to [...] Continue reading →
It was announced a few days ago that San Francisco 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree would receive some playing time this coming Sunday against the Houston Texans. It was rumored and then generally accepted as truth that Crabtree would be in on 12-15 snaps as a slot receiver to evaluate how the rookie could bring to the table for the team this season. Much like I expected however, it seems his role may be a bigger one than previously expected. It was said yesterday that he'll likely be starting the game in place of WR Josh Morgan. While I figured more playing time would be in order, I hardly expected him to get the nod over Morgan. It makes you wonder if Crabtree was just that good in practice or if Morgan was just that bad in the game. I'd suppose it's neither and more likely the fact [...] Continue reading →
As fans, we of the 49ers faith have successfully made it through the bye week. It was tough, I'll admit, not having a game to look forward to. In that, as opposed to putting the Atlanta game behind ourselves and concentrating on the opponent at hand, we were sort of forced to sit and reflect on it throughout the week. Today marks my first look ahead, to next Sunday and the 49ers matchup against the Houston Texans. More so than exactly how the game will turn out, the hot ticket for discussion these days in 49erland is WR Michael Crabtree and his potential impact on the San Francisco 49ers this season. Crabtree signed a 6-year, 32 million dollar contract with 17 million guaranteed on October 7th after setting a 49ers franchise record by holding out longer than any Niners draftee in [...] Continue reading →
An interesting idea came to me today.  The San Fransisco 49ers unsigned first round pick, WR Michael Crabtree, does not want to sign with the 49ers and, if they do sign him, it would cost a lot them a lot of cap room. The Seahawks decided to pass on Crabtree for Wake Forest LB Aaron Curry.  However, on draft day, as the Seahawks were making their pick, you could see that Crabtree [...] Continue reading →
As of four days ago, WR Michael Crabtree is officially a contract holdout. Crabtree was taken with the 10th pick of the draft as San Francisco's first round draft choice and is the only rookie not yet signed by the team. As I write this, I wonder how many articles you, the readers, have stumbled on lately labeling Crabtree as a "diva," or perhaps, how many articles you've come across calling doom and gloom for the 49ers and head coach Mike Singletary if they don't get that pick signed right away! If your eyes are open and you're looking at sports news, my guess is at least five. I'm here to dispel some of these myths, as well as clue you in on the situation as of right now. What does it mean for the 49ers? What does it mean for the record-setting wide receiver out of Texas Tech? Read [...] Continue reading →
By James Brady The 2009 draft has come to a close and I'll admit: there was a ton of things going on that I didn't see coming. What with Cleveland trading the upwards of three times, Rey Maualuga falling to the second round, the Raiders'... interesting picks and the biggest thing for myself (and you, hopefully) the falling of WR Michael Crabtree to the tenth pick. Nobody saw it coming, not even the 49ers. In case you missed it, the Raiders (aka Al Davis) selected WR Darrius Heyward-Bey with the seventh pick, that's right--Crabtree wasn't even the first receiver off the board! This blows my mind, I could picture all the fans' collective jaws dropping and hanging for a good oh... entire season. Day one includes the first and second rounds, in which the 49ers selected [...] Continue reading →
By Kyle Strittholt The Mock Drafts have been up and down with the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason. It has been anywhere from defensive or offensive tackle to running back or wide receiver going in the first round. With the draft only two weeks away, the question still remains on who the Bengals will choose. The team seems to have narrowed it down to Andre Smith or Michael Crabtree. I think RB Chris Wells should be in that discussion, because he is a stellar player and would tremendously help the weak running attack, but things are the way they are. Smith has been a good recruit out of Alabama as an offensive tackle. He was one of the best O-lineman [...] Continue reading →
