Kyle Orton

It was a classic spit take. Upon reading the news of Brady Quinn's trade to the Denver Broncos for fullback Peyton Hillis and two late round draft picks, I proceeded to soak my laptop screen in soda. It completely caught me off guard. What was surprising was not that Quinn got moved but rather where he got moved to. It was beginning to look like the Broncos were going to commit to Kyle Orton for the foreseeable future. Analysts thought the Broncos would ride Orton for a few years while head coach Josh McDaniels developed a draft pick. Not anymore. A year ago, McDaniels stirred the pot by attempting to trade then-starter Jay Cutler to acquire Matt Cassel from New England. That didn't work. Cutler got mad and was on his way to Chicago while Orton was sent to Denver. Orton had not [...] Continue reading →
Ex-Bears Kyle Orton and Cedric Benson were decent players with the Bears at best, but now they have entered the next stages of their careers. Cedric Benson, who the Bears drafted with the fourth selection in 2005 was basically dumped by the Bears last season after he had off the field issues. The Bengals decided to pick him up about halfway through the season. This season the surprising 4-1 Bengals have Benson playing and looking like whole different player. Benson has 487 yards on 111 carries and is [...] Continue reading →
I''m going to get straight to the point in this article: I really like the Denver Broncos.  I saw a game Sunday that resembled a Street Fighter II contest between Ryu and Ryu.  I find it amazing that the Denver Broncos, at least offensively and philosophically,  mirror the New England Patriots.  Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels coached a game that made me believe the Broncos are destined for big things this season, and it took overtime against the Patriots to crystalize that statement.  Now, I said in the 1SKILLZ Gameplan for this game (http://www.nfltouchdown.com/nfl-week-5-2009-patriots-at-broncos-the-1skillz-gameplan/) that this game will come down to turnovers and quarterback play.  The Broncos had two turnovers to the Patriots' one, but Orton's first interception of the season [...] Continue reading →
A big late afternoon game this Sunday,  October 11 as the 4-0 Denver Broncos host the 3-1 New England Patriots at INVESCO Field at Mile High.  It is an AFL Legacy game, meaning there may be some scary colors being worn.  This is exciting; but this game has some legit notability to it.  The most obvious is that Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels was on the Patriots coaching staff under Patriots head coach Bill Belichick from 2001-2008, most recently as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.  McDaniels has seven former Patriots on his roster (RB Lamont Jordan, WR Jabar Gaffney, TE Daniel Graham, OT Brandon Gorin, G Russ Hochstein, DE Le Kevin Smith, and LS Lonie Paxton), and a major reason former Broncos QB Jay Cutler is in Chicago is former Patriots QB Matt Cassel, now in Kansas [...] Continue reading →
The best way to describe  Cleveland's inept performance against Denver is sickening. Once again the Browns could muster very little offense to go with a bend, and bend some more defense that finally broke. Cleveland managed just two Phil Dawson field goals in the first half to trail by a 10-6 score at the intermission. Denver scored on a two yard Kyle Orton to Tony Scheffler pass, and a Matt Prater field goal. For the second straight week, the Browns failed to make any adjustments at half time and got totally out played, 17-0 in the last two periods. In the second half, Denver got rushing touchdowns from Peyton Hillis, a two yard run, and Correll Buckhalter on a 45 yard run. Prater added another field goal. Kyle Orton continually picked apart Cleveland's defense all day for 263 [...] Continue reading →
As somewhat of a response to Punkus' great article earlier, I will now give you my opinion of who will make the Denver Broncos' final roster for 2009. I will start by giving an overview of the Broncos' quarterback unit, which took a serious hit in terms of pure talent when the team traded away Pro Bowl selection Jay Cutler. As any casual sports fan knows by now, Cutler was dealt to the Chicago Bears in exchange for Kyle Orton and three draft picks. Orton has been named the starting quarterback by head coach Josh McDaniels, as expected, and will continue to compete for the job this offseason with free agent signee Chris Simms. For the Broncos, Orton will be expected to run Josh McDaniels' complex but effective offense that relies heavily on the pass.  In his time with [...] Continue reading →
By: Jake Perper Many of the Rex Grossman supporters have to wonder where he will play next season. Grossman appeared in three games last season, starting one and coming in relief for the injured Kyle Orton twice. Grossman completed 20 of 37 passes for 173 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In two games in relief for Kyle Orton, Grossman completed 12 of 25 passes for 84 yards, one touchdown and one interception. To be honest I was a big Grossman supporter for a long time and I thought last season he should have started over Kyle Orton. Clearly Kyle Orton was the right choice, but Grossman could have success somewhere on another team. The teams that would consider bringing Grossman in [...] Continue reading →
