knowshon moreno

A big late afternoon game this Sunday,  October 11 as the 4-0 Denver Broncos host the 3-1 New England Patriots at INVESCO Field at Mile High.  It is an AFL Legacy game, meaning there may be some scary colors being worn.  This is exciting; but this game has some legit notability to it.  The most obvious is that Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels was on the Patriots coaching staff under Patriots head coach Bill Belichick from 2001-2008, most recently as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.  McDaniels has seven former Patriots on his roster (RB Lamont Jordan, WR Jabar Gaffney, TE Daniel Graham, OT Brandon Gorin, G Russ Hochstein, DE Le Kevin Smith, and LS Lonie Paxton), and a major reason former Broncos QB Jay Cutler is in Chicago is former Patriots QB Matt Cassel, now in Kansas [...] Continue reading →
After the longest rookie holdout Denver Broncos fans of this generation have known, Knowshon Moreno has finally agreed to terms with the team on a contract. The rookie out of Georgia, selected 12th overall in April's draft, has agreed to a deal worth $23 million over five years with $13 million guaranteed. As luck would have it for Moreno, his first day on the job will be the day off, as the Broncos will not hold any training camp sessions on Saturday.  His first practice will be on Sunday afternoon. The return of Moreno finally gives the Broncos the full dream offensive weaponry they have been hoping for since they took him with their first of two first-round selections in the draft. The Broncos feel that an offensive [...] Continue reading →
2008 was a rough season to be a running back for the Denver Broncos.  The opening day starter was Selvin Young, and after his hamstring injury, there seemed to be a domino effect for Broncos' running backs landing on injured reserve. Joining Young on the Broncos' injured reserve list were fellow running backs Michael Pittman, Ryan Torain, Andre Hall, Peyton Hillis, and P.J. Pope.  The Broncos also brought in Tatum Bell and Cory Boyd to play the running back position. After the barrage of injuries, new Head Coach Josh McDaniels was not about to take any chances this season with a similar result.  His first two free agent signings were running backs Correll Buckhalter and J.J. Arrington, both of whom were key backups for the top two teams in the NFC in 2008. He then proceeded to [...] Continue reading →
By Sayre Bedinger 1(12)   Tyson Jackson; Defensive End, LSU 6'4" 295 lbs.  4.94 Jackson is the best 3-4 defensive end available in this draft, and the Broncos have an open starting spot opposite Marcus Thomas on the defensive line. 1(18)   Knowshon Moreno; Running Back, Georgia 5'11"  217 lbs.  4.44 Denver already has a slew of backs, but none are elite.  Moreno has all of the tools you look for in a "New England" style of back.  He is a willing blocker, great receiver, and can run between the tackles. 2(48)  Sean Smith; Defensive Back, Utah 6'4"  214 lbs.  4.50 Smith is a converted receiver, so you know he has great ball skills.  I think in the [...] Continue reading →
By Sayre Bedinger Now that the 2009 NFL Draft is less than two weeks away, anticipation is mounting as to what teams will do to improve their futures.  For the Denver Broncos, the focus will be on the defense, and with eleven picks in this year's selection process (thanks to the Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons), they figure to improve that area of their team greatly. First Round, 12th overall:  Knowshon Moreno; Running Back, Georgia Did I just say defense is going to be the focus?  With two selections in the first round, and only six picks in between, the Broncos have a ton of flexibility with this first pick.  It was rumored even back when they only had one first round pick that Knowshon could be the guy, and now armed with two picks in [...] Continue reading →
