It would be difficult to dispute that Mason Crosby had a bad year kicking field goals for the Green Bay Packers. Among kickers with at least 15 attempts, his 75% average field goal percentage (FG%) was better than only 6 other kickers in the NFL. Towards the end of the season, Crosby collected “votes of confidence” from Packers coaches like Ted Thompson collects wide receivers (more than should be necessary).
Despite his less than eventful 2009, Crosby somehow triggered incentives in his contract that has doubled his salary for 2010, from $500K to 1M. As Don King loves to say, God Bless America! And [...]

Disclaimer: Usually journalist and especially good journalist don’t usually use “I” in articles and recently I’ve been trying to improve on that and just stick with reporting. However I’ve decided to try a little experiment and create a new series of articles titled “In my opinion” which will include players, coaches and other aspects of the NFL an give my opinion on those topics. So articles titled “In my opinion” will be the only time I use “I” in an article, but when it comes to reporting on the Seahawks and the draft, “I” won’t be included. Just needed to clear that with this [...]

In the NBA you have Kobe or LeBron. In the NHL you have Crosby vs Ovechkin. For the most part in the NFL it's always been Brady vs Manning deciding who's the best quarterback in the NFL.
I decided to go beyond the usual comparison of who is the best quarterback in the NFL right now with Manning and Brady. I decided to compare two forty year old quarterbacks who've been making "comebacks" for three years now.
Warner with Arizona and Favre with Green Bay, NY Jets and most recently Minnesota.
I've never heard someone compare Brett Favre and Kurt Warner so I decided to be the first and even [...]

Olin Kreutz, an 11 year veteran has been voted to six pro bowls, played in 170 games and has blocked for about I don’t know how many quarterbacks. A lot! Anyway he is not having the greatest season so far, but you can’t put all the blame on just him. Packers rookie DT B.J. Raji who was a first round pick out of Boston College didn’t play in the season opening game in Green Bay, but he had lots to say about Bears center Olin Kreutz.
Here’s what he said:
“It’s nothing physical, it’s all technical, I’m stronger than the guy. I mean, that’s not really talking (smack), he’s [...]

Look, I'm not going to sit here and type away about how the Packers cheated, or how the refs were clearly against the Cowboys, and go boo hoo all over the screen.
I'm giving the Packers credit. That defense they prepared was amazing. I'm more angry at the lack of execution by Dallas, who should have trampled over the Packers.
However, I will say that they were lucky that this wasn't a playoff game because the league screwed this one up.
I knew Dallas had lost when the fumble was ruled recovered by Clay Matthews. It was a horrible call, but I can forgive the referees, they are human, but what I cannot forgive is the insertion of an unfair and idiotic rule that effectively ended the Cowboys hopes of coming back.
Any reasonable and unbiased fan with a basic knowledge of football [...]

The Raiders stink. I wanted to write about something relevant in the NFL besides a head coach living a soap opera. So I thought I would post a piece about Brett Favre, because that poor guy just doesn't get enough attention.
For all of you clamoring for more information on the silver and black, don't worry-- I will get back to more Raidercentric pieces later this week. So stay tuned, because I may accuse Tom Cable of assaulting me.
As Vikings defensive end Jared Allen said, "You just don’t turn your back on 16 years of greatness."
One thing I know after Sunday, November One is: Jared Allen is absolutely correct.
No one turns their back on 16 years of [...]

It's a fickle world of coincidences these days. After a weekend to remember at the Metrodome (now formally named Mall of America Field), the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings have played their best games of their season and maybe their franchises' history on consecutive back-to-back nights. The fans of Minnesota felt like they were in a Buffalo Wild Wings and couldn't decide what to watch.
On Monday night (and Tuesday for that matter) the eyes of the nation watched as Brett Favre lead the boys in purple against his former team in a game many said would define his season and make or break the Vikings playoff hopes.
After that fateful night, not only are Vikings fans talking playoffs, they're talking the whole piece of pie in Miami, Florida.
Brett Favre put up a great [...]

Matt Hasselbeck...Nine years and counting wearing Seattle Seahawks blue and white. The Seahawks starting quarterback, now entering his 11th year in the NFL, two in Green Bay and nine in Seattle still has to cement his stature in Seattle and the NFL.
2001, the Seattle Seahawks new head coach Mike Holmgren brought in the backup from Green Bay Hasselbeck. Holmgren was in Green Bay with Hasselbeck and when he came to Seattle he knew he had his quarterback in Hasselbeck.
Nine years late, Hasselbeck is considered one of the top five or ten quarterbacks in the NFL to date.
However Hasselbeck has really been pushing the back 40 the last three years with injuries the last two out of three seasons.
The one year, 2007, when Hasselbeck did not miss a single game Hasselbeck had [...]

Last week I spoke of tempering my excitement and keeping things at a "McCarthy-like" even keel. Well, after whipping the Super Bowl runner-up Arizona Cardinals in the first half to the tune of 38-10, that's pretty darn hard to do. But I'm still going to try. So once again, let's take a calm, rational look at this past week's winners and losers.
Winners:
Jeremy Kapinos: With his only camp competition (Durant Brooks) sidelined with a hip-flexor injury, Kapinos went into preseason game 3 as the Packers #1 punter. Kapinos had two punting opportunities in the game (thanks to the [...]

In this 2-part series, I will examine the Packer's crop of undrafted free agents and predict their chances of making the 53-man roster:
With fourteen new undrafted free agents (UFAs) signed in 2009, the Packers are once again spinning the "Undrafted Free Agent Wheel of Fortune". Will the spin produce a winner or will they hit bankrupt and go away empty-handed? Recent history indicates the Packers will walk away with at least a consolation prize.
Since 1992, 20 undrafted free agents who signed with the Packers immediately after the draft made the roster coming out of training camp. Presently there are twenty players on the [...]
