The holiday season couples many of the things we covet most in life—family, friends, faith, food and football. Christmas reminds us that miracles can happen and that God is always here to light the way in the darkness. It’s also important to remember that it always feels better to give than to receive. On behalf of everyone at GridironGrit.com and NFLTouchdown.com, we hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas (and Happy Hanukkah) and enjoy a Happy New Year! Week 16 was [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
The Packers went 364 days without a loss, while the Colts were also headed straight for the record books for infamous imperfection.  In the most unlikely circumstances, both streaks came to an end in Week 15. The Tebow train was also stopped when the Patriots popped in for a visit and the Texans struggled in all phases against Carolina without defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Those were just the pinnacle of the surprises and headlines. Philadelphia and Washington also annihilated the two teams from New York by 39 points combined.  Seattle crushed Chicago by more than three touchdowns and Detroit wrapped up its first winning season since '97 in another thrilling comeback over Oakland. The wild and whacky [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
NFL Week 13 featured more high-stakes marquee matchups, sudden surprises and fantastic finishes as the murky playoff picture continues to clear and the pressure for a postseason push is reaching its boiling point. Please take the uncharacteristic momentous movement in this week's rankings with a grain of salt. Teams placed previously between 8th and 14th in last week's rankings all lost on Sunday. He are my NFL Week 14 Power Rankings with an updated examination on the 2011 NFL playoff picture. [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
Week 12 in the NFL featured a feast of mouth-watering action—arguably the best slate of games of the season to date, starting with the most palatable Thanksgiving Day menu ever in league history. Here are my NFL Week 13 Power Rankings with an updated examination on the 2011 playoff picture. This week’s biggest movers are the Redskins (31st to 26th) and the Raiders and Giants, two teams that swap positions for 8th and 13th.  The Ravens (3rd to 2nd) and 49ers (2nd to 3rd) also exchange places, along with the Bears (7th to 9th) and Patriots (9th to 7th). Ranking the dreadful dozen (worst 12 teams) this week is like trying to solve the Rubik’s Cube and catch football passes simultaneously.  Interestingly enough, each team beat the team ranked just behind them from 22nd to [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
Thanksgiving couples three of the things I love most in life—family, food and football.  And Week 12 in the NFL presents the most mouth-watering slate of games to date this season. It wouldn't be complete without the Packers (10-0) at the Lions (7-3), emerging Dolphins (3-7) at the Cowboys (6-4) and finally the Harbaugh Bowl between the 49ers (9-1) and the Ravens (7-3) all on Turkey Day. Before I get cracking with my Week 12 predictions, here are my NFL Week 12 Power Rankings. This week's biggest mover is Miami, who ascends nine spots (28th to 19th), while Buffalo drops the furthest, sliding down five places (17th to 22nd).  The Jets (15th to 18th) and Eagles (18th to 15th) also swap positions, along with Raiders (14th to 13th) and Bengals (13th to 14th). I maintain a [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
NFL Week 10 featured everything but the kitchen sink with a number ofupsets (Raiders 24-Chargers 17, Broncos 17-Chiefs 10, Cardinals 21-Eagles 17 and Seahawks 22-Ravens 17), blowouts (Titans 30-Panthers 3, Texans 37-Buccaneers 9, Cowboys 44-Bills 7, Bears 37-Lions 13, Patriots 37-Jets 16 and Packers 45-Vikings 7) and tight finishes that didn't fall into the previous two categories (Saints 26-Falcons 23 in OT, Rams 13-Browns 12, Steelers 24-Bengals 17 and 49ers 27-Giants 20). Week 10 also presented all 32 teams in action and Week 11 will be the last stanza of byes with the three 7-3 teams (Saints, Texans and Steelers) and the still winless Colts taking a week off before Thanksgiving. While I always pay close attention to what [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
Week 9 in the NFL delivered a mixed bag of tricks and treats post-Halloween. Here's how my NFL Week 10 Power Rankings shake out after a wild weekend. This week's biggest movers are the Broncos who climb from 28th to 22nd and the Buccaneers who plummet from 10th to 16th.  Meanwhile, 14 teams remain in the same spot, including the entire top seven and the bottom four. There's a reason for the lack of fluctuation up at the top and bottom.  I pay close attention to what teams have done throughout the entire course of the season and also look ahead and evaluate expectations for the coming weeks. As always, I also provide that  information all in one convenient location—something you can't fine anywhere else. Be sure to let me know your feedback below!  But [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
Week 8 in the NFL was chock-full of a number of great games, unsuspecting upsets, big blowouts, eye-popping rallies and head-scratching action.  I guess Halloween weekend had something to do with it. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers were on a bye week, but that didn't stop them from pulling even further ahead of the other 31 teams.  There's only one one-loss team left in the league now and it's San Francisco. Here are my Week 9 power rankings with every team's week-by-week game results included. You can also check out my review of all of Sunday's games and see how I did in my Week 8 [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
NFL Week 7 featured an inevitable great slate of early games (Falcons-Lions, Tebow-Dolphins, Chargers-Jets, Redskins-Panthers and Bears-Buccaneers in London) and late action that made fans cringe. It was by most accounts a disappointing and less-than-thrilling weekend. Week 8 looks to offer more excitement and ultimately just the opposite of Week 7—lopsided early affairs and great late games. Here are my Week 8 NFL Power Rankings and an early outlook on the 2011 playoff picture. No. 32  Miami [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
NFL Week 5 was chock-full of inevitable thrillers, head-turning surprises and much more puzzling parity. Six teams sat out for the first week of byes (Dallas, Washington, Baltimore, Cleveland, St. Louis and Miami), creating even a tougher task to systematically sift through the confusion, chaos and correlation between the pretenders and contenders. Here are my Week 6 NFL Power Rankings.   No. 32  St. Louis Rams (0-4):The game isn’t over ‘til the clock strikes double-zero.  But there’s less than 10 seconds to go and the Rams are behind and out of [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
