Colt McCoy

The holiday season couples many of the things we covet most in life—family, friends, faith, food and football. Christmas reminds us that miracles can happen and that God is always here to light the way in the darkness. It’s also important to remember that it always feels better to give than to receive. On behalf of everyone at GridironGrit.com and NFLTouchdown.com, we hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas (and Happy Hanukkah) and enjoy a Happy New Year! Week 16 was [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
The Jacksonville Jaguars entered Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns expecting to run the ball effectively and play good defense. This formula held up fairly well in the first half, but a lack of second half carries for Maurice Jones-Drew and a poor performance from the defense after halftime doomed their hopes of victory. The Browns won, 14-10, dropping Jacksonville to 3-7 and effectively ending any illusions about their potential to make a playoff push. The Browns withstood a furious last-minute drive down to their three-yard line, stopping Jones-Drew on one carry and forcing two straight incompletions to close the game. Blaine Gabbert showed some poise and has shown improvement now in two straight games, but all too often his passes were too low or too high in crucial [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , ,
The  3-6 Jacksonville Jaguars get set to take on the 3-6 Cleveland Browns in a battle of young, physical  teams with major question marks at both quarterback and receiver. Jacksonville Jaguars Keys to Victory: 1. Ride MJD. Maurice Jones-Drew has accounted for about 40% of the Jaguars' offensive yardage this season. The Browns have one of the worst run defenses in the league (30th), but are ranked number one against the pass. Jones-Drew is the NFL's fourth leading rusher and Blaine Gabbert has the lowest quarterback rating among starters in the league - and that is including John Beck and Rex Grossman. Therefore, the optimal offensive strategy seems intuitive; give Maurice Jones-Drew the ball as much as possible. It is the strategy that worked [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , ,
With the 2011 NFL Preseason well underway, I thought it would be fun to skip ahead a couple chapters and orchestrate an early comprehensive preview of the 2011 NFL regular season with record predictions for all 32 teams.  I’m going way beyond your typical predictions. While most that cover this engaging and highly-debatable topic possess extensive knowledge and realistic expectations for the entire league, they don’t actually objectively gauge every single game on the schedule and come up with the correct win-loss ratio for the NFL—256-256. Additional Ingredients: Game-By-Game predictions for all 32 teams, and it wouldn’t be complete without bold surprises.  Some might make you laugh, scream, perhaps throw up, or even cause [...] Continue reading → | , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

When the Cleveland Browns first unveiled Pat Shurmur as the head coach for the 2011 NFL season, many fans began to wonder what the direction of the offense would be moving forward. Shurmur spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams and controlled a different style of offense than what the Browns have seen in several years. Cleveland finally climbed their way back into football relevance by riding on the legs of Peyton Hillis and capitalizing on key throws by Colt McCoy. However, one would have to wonder if Shurmur's new offensive scheme will actually hurt the Browns during the 2011 season. Throughout Shurmur's tenure with the Rams, Steven Jackson was the front-runner in a mediocre offense. Jackson was forced to carry the Rams franchise [...] Continue reading → | ,

One of the biggest issues surrounding the NFL Draft is making sense out of the rumors that come forth during the draft process, and indeed the "smoke screens" that some NFL teams tend to put out in the open. The Cleveland Browns may have been guilty of sending out some of those false messages earlier this spring, when Mike Holmgren indicated that the team will be looking to draft another quarterback this year. The Browns organization has been quick to defend Colt McCoy as the quarterback of the future and even went so far as to sign backup Seneca Wallace to a three-year deal before any sort of NFL lockout ensued. The Browns also signed free agent Jarret Brown to a [...] Continue reading → | , ,
Since 1999,  Chris Palmer, Butch Davis, Terry Robiskie, Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini have taken turns as head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Robiskie finished out the 2004 season for Davis, who resigned. Now it's Pat Shurmur's turn to right the ship. An offensive coordinator for the St.Louis Rams the last two seasons, Shurmur will be taking on his first head coaching job at any level. Browns President Mike Holmgren is making a bold statement in selecting the 45 year old Shurmur. Holmgren will look like a genius if the Browns can become consistent winners. The fact that Shurmur runs a west coast offense helped get him the job. Also,  Holmgren has stated more than once that Shurmur is a team player. That probably made him more attractive than a veteran coach with a huge [...] Continue reading → | , , , ,
