Cleveland Browns

Brady Quinn is as Irish as it gets. OK, he's not from Ireland, or even a red head, but his last name suggests Irish roots. And it doesn't end there, no it's only the beginning laddie. Aye, Quinn played in Dublin. Well, Dublin, Ohio at Dublin  Coffman High School. At Dublin High, Quinn played well enough to be listed as ESPN's No. 20 on the list of 100 top prep football players. Next up for this Irish lad was what other than Notre Dame. As the leader of the Fighting Irish, Quinn broke and set 36 Notre Dame passing records; including completions, yards per game (239.6) and touchdowns [...] Continue reading →
The Cleveland Browns have traded two former first round draft picks Brady Quinn and Kameron Wimbley. Quinn goes to Denver for fullback Peyton Hillis, a 2011 6th round pick and a conditional pick in the 2012 draft. Wimbley was dealt to Oakland. There is no word yet on what the Browns will receive in return for Wimbley. While the trade of Quinn was expected, I didn't see the  Wimbley trade coming. Wimbley was the Browns first pick and 13th overall in the 2006 draft and Quinn was selected number 22 overall in the 2007 draft. Eric Mangini said at the end of last season that he was very pleased with the improvement that was made by Wimbley. Evidently Mike Holmgren and Ton Heckert didn't share the same opinion as Mangini. Quinn will be going to a team in Denver where he may have a chance [...] Continue reading →
The Cleveland Browns have signed Jake Delhomme to a two year contract as reported by ESPN's  Adam Schefter. Delhomme, who is 35, was recently released by the Carolina Panthers. He will join Seneca Wallace, Brady Quinn and Brett Ratliff as Browns quarterbacks for now. Instead of clearing up the Browns quarterback picture, it just got foggier than ever. Who will the starter be? One thing is for sure, the debate that has raged in Cleveland the last three plus years over Quinn vs Anderson is over. Anderson has been released and Quinn will surely be traded now that Delhomme has been signed. Who will Quinn be traded to is the next question. The former first round pick never lived up to all the hype and hope that Browns fans had for him. Quinn has been more of a fan favorite instead of a [...] Continue reading →
The second installment of the Patriots Free Agency Hindsight Report is ready for release after a significant week of movement!  Enough intro, let's get right into it here: -TE Ben Watson is officially a member of the Cleveland Browns.  No surprise that they lost him - they didn't have a lot of incentive to bring back a player that only had one season with at least 40 catches and 500 yards (2006 his third season: 49 catches, 643 yards, 3 TDs).  In fact, the Patriots faced almost the same situation in 2007 when they let 2002 first round pick TE Daniel Graham go after five seasons (none with at least 40 catches and 500 yards).  More on this later. -CB Leigh Bodden re-signed with the Patriots.  His new contract is for 4 years, $22 million, with $10 million guaranteed.  Starter's [...] Continue reading →
The Cleveland Browns have signed former New England tight end Ben Watson to a three year deal. Watson, 29, gives the Browns a much needed receiving threat at TE. Last year he had 29 catches for 404 yards and five touchdowns. Watson will team with Evan Moore to give the Browns a very respectable pair of tight ends. Cleveland continues to sign solid veterans. With the signing of linebacker Scott Fujita, right tackle Tony Pashos,  Watson, and the trade for Seneca Wallace, the Browns are filling holes with quality veterans. Maybe they aren't marque names but they are an upgrade none the less. Last year Eric Mangini started building the Browns with smart, selfless, high charactor players.  Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert seem to be doing more of the same this [...] Continue reading →
The Cleveland Browns have finally released Derek Anderson. In a move that comes as a surprise to no one, Anderson is no longer a Cleveland Brown. After spending five years in Cleveland and with a pro bowl season in 2007, DA can best be described as inconsistent. Newly acquired Seneca Wallace, Brady Quinn and Brett Ratliff now make up Cleveland's quarterback roster. But for how long? Is Mike Holmgren done with his QB search or is he just beginning? Who will be the starter in 2010? Will Brady Quinn even be on the team next season? The answers to these questions will probably be revealed in the near future. Mike Holmgren brought Wallace to Cleveland in case he can't swing a trade for a starting quarterback. If he does, then Wallace can be a fine backup. If no trade is made, he will be [...] Continue reading →
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cleveland Browns have acquired quarterback Seneca Wallce from the Seattle Seahawks. It is not know yet what Cleveland had to give up in the trade. Wallace is an eight year veteran and was a fourth round draft choice of the Seahawks in 2003. Wallace, who has a career passer rating of 83.1, has been a very capable backup to Matt Hasselbeck his entire [...] Continue reading →
There are many rumors and opinions about who will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in 2010, but so far nothings changed. Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson and Brett Ratliff are still on the Browns roster as day two of the trading period and free agency winds down. So far Mike Holmgren has remained tight lipped about who he's interested in. Names thrown around by the media the last two days include Seneca Wallace, Matt Flynn, Kevin Kolb, Donavon McNabb, and David Carr. Getting Kolb or McNabb from the Eagles would come at a steep price.  If Holmgren is convinced either QB would greatly improve the Browns offense, then he would be wise to make the deal. Cleveland has spent its share of millions over the last decade looking for a franchise QB. Putting that search to bed [...] Continue reading →
In a move that is hard to figure, the Cleveland Browns released veteran offensive lineman Hank Fraley today. Fraley had spent the last four years with the Browns after playing six years with the Philadelphia Eagles. After being replaced at center by last year's first round pick Alex Mack, Fraley filled in at both guard and center for the Browns and even playing tight end on occasion. It seems experience and versatility are not as important as it used to be. Even if he no longer figured in the Browns plans as a starter, Fraley could have been a very valuable backup. Could Cleveland be clearing the way for the up coming free agency and trading period that begins at 12:01 am March 5. It would seem very probable that the Browns will be either signing or trading for a player to take [...] Continue reading →
Most experts like to talk about all the weaknesses of the Cleveland Browns. It's funny to read about all the different positions  Cleveland needs to fix. Running back, wide receiver, offensive line, quarterback, tight end, corner back, safety, linebackers (both inside and out), defensive line. Whew! With all those needs, the Browns won't be a legitimate contender for another five years. I'm not saying the Browns should just stand pat.  Teams should always look to improve, but it's not as bleak as some people would lead you to believe. Imagine what Cleveland would look like if you could add Peyton Manning and Troy Polamalu to what they already have. Just two players.  How would the offense  look with Manning at QB.  How did the Colts offense look when he was taken out of the [...] Continue reading →
