Chris Henry

As the 2009 season unfolded, it was clear that this Cincinnati Bengals team would be very different from years past.  Since Carson Palmer became the team's quarterback, the Bengals have been considered a passing team.  Fans have grown accustomed to seeing balls thrown deep into the secondary to the likes of Chad Ochocinco, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chris Henry. With Palmer missing all but four games in 2008, that season became a complete disaster.  The offense was one of the worst I have ever seen.  Houshmandzadeh left for Seattle after the season, creating a huge void.  Other holes remained unfilled as the team's top draft choice, offensive lineman Andre Smith, was unsigned and not in playing shape.  Tight ends Reggie Kelly and Ben Utecht both suffered season-ending injuries [...] Continue reading →
The Cincinnati Bengals did their best to honor the memory of Chris Henry but fell short in a 27-24 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Fans got to see a classic duel between two great quarterbacks. It was an emotional and hard-fought football game with the Nate Kaeding giving the Chargers the lead by kicking a 53-yard field goal with three seconds on the clock. Offense Carson Palmer had his best game of the season, completing 27 of 40 passes for 314 yards. He spread the ball around to eight different players, including touchdowns to Chad Ochocinco and Laveranues Coles. It was a much different celebration for Ochocinco this time. He dropped to his knees, tapped his heart and had words for "Slim", his former teammate who was surely cheering him on from [...] Continue reading →
It will be a long flight home for the Bengals after a heartbreaking loss to the Chargers. Doing their best to honor their fallen teammate, Chris Henry, the Bengals fought hard but ended up on the losing side of a 27-24 final score. Playing in front of family and friends, Carson Palmer had his best game of the season. Palmer exceeded 300 yards passing for the first time since 2007 and had two touchdowns. His only miscue was an interception in the third quarter. Two major problems continue to plague the Bengals. The offense consistently struggles to score touchdowns in the red zone. The other problem is penalties. Mental mistakes are absolutely destroying this team's chances to win. The Bengals missed another chance to wrap-up the AFC North. They will try again next week when the [...] Continue reading →
The only certainty in life is death. Think about how powerful that statement is. It does not matter what color skin your is or to whom you pray. After God calls you home, your loved ones are faced with the unenviable task of moving on without you. The Cincinnati Bengals are coming down the home stretch of an emotional season. On the field, a dedication to the running game and attacking defense has them at the top of the AFC North. Off the field, tragedy has now struck the team on three separate occasions. When a tsunami devastated American Somoa in September, three Bengals were worried about the fate of their friends and family. Jonathan Fanene, Rey Maualuga and Domata Peko all finally received good news after many failed attempts to contact loved ones. In October, [...] Continue reading →
The Bengals had a very strong 2005 NFL Draft and it helped them have great success that season and make it to the playoffs . Their first draft pick was defensive end David Pollack, the second linebacker Odell Thurman, and the third wide receiver Chris Henry. Out of all three players, now none of them remain in Cincinnati. Pollack injured his spine and decided not to return to the NFL. Odell Thurman got in trouble with drugs, and after his second shot couldn’t play to potential. Now Chris Henry is also gone. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry died this morning after sustaining injuries to the head after falling off a moving pick up truck driven by fiancée Loleini Tonga yesterday. Tonga was released from custody after questioning and appears to not be receiving [...] Continue reading →
ESPN is reporting that Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry has died. Henry suffered what were described as life-threatening injuries yesterday after coming out of the back of a pickup truck driven by his fiancee, Loleini Tonga. The two were involved in a domestic dispute when Tonga tried to leave. Henry apparently jumped into the back of the truck. The incident occurred in Charlotte, where Tonga's parents reside. Henry has been away from the Bengals because of a broken forearm. He was placed on injured reserve following the November 8 game against Baltimore. Henry's history of arrests and suspensions is no secret. After numerous chances, he was cut by the Bengals in April 2008. Against much criticism, Mike Brown decided to give Henry another chance to turn his life [...] Continue reading →

The media icon that is the NFL seemed to go from a league with players playing to win and get the prize inside every box (the Super Bowl) to a league that's been loaded with player conduct problems, divas, and players just in it for the money. On Aug. 8, 2006, Roger Goodell was selected to succeed retiring commissioner Paul Tagliabue, voted on by 31 NFL GMs (Oakland abstained from all voting). Goodell officially became the acting commissioner on [...] Continue reading →
The last five times the Bengals have met the Steelers, it hasn't ended well. Ever since the 2005 playoffs, the Bengals have been in a losing slump against Pittsburgh. After losing last week to the Chicago Bears, you know Pittsburgh is going to come into Cincinnati hungry and ready to play. The Bengals have got to fix their mistakes from a close win last week and make sure they hold their home field better than last time they played at Paul Brown Stadium against the Broncos. In order for the Bengals to beat the former Super Bowl Champs, they have to come in firing on all cylinders. They can't shoot themselves in the foot with penalties like last week, and quarterback Carson Palmer has to make sure he gets the ball to his receivers and not the Steelers' defense. This is [...] Continue reading →
Andre Caldwell arived in Cincinnati last season coming from a talented Florida Gators team that a year before won the National Championship. He was one of the many talented players on the team, and was a hybrid player with receiving and running ability. He didn't make the biggest impact as a rookie with stars like TJ Houshmandzadeh and Chad Ochocinco on the roster spot in front of him, and his main job was to learn. Learn to be able to fill in the position when the time you time came. When his time did come, and both Chad and TJ were out with injuries Caldwell had a very productive game with five catches for 34 yards, and four runs for 49 yards. Now he is coming into his second season with the Bengals, and says he feels like a better athlete based on what TJ Houshmandzadeh [...] Continue reading →
