Carolina Panthers

Sources say that the New York Giants are ready to offer unrestricted free agent, Julius Peppers 100 million dollars for seven years, including a hefty signing bonus.  It has been noted that Peppers and his camp will field a minimum of seven offers by week's end. One year after the Giants were spurned by free agent DT Albert Haynesworth after offering 80 million to come play with Big Blue, the Giants have stepped up their pursuit of a game changing defensive superstar. On January 16, 2009, Peppers spoke very candidly about not re-signing with the Carolina Panthers.  He also expressed the desire or willingness to convert from a defensive end to outside linebacker to fit a 4/3 scheme. The Carolina Panthers have seemingly taken a 180-degree turn in their pursuit of Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers. According to his agent, Carl Carey, the Panthers have "not made a single inquiry this offseason" in regards to contract negotiations with the team's top pick in the 2002 draft. This is a complete reversal of their strategy from last year, where head coach John Fox and general manager Marty Hurney seemed adamant about keeping Peppers in town, eventually placing the team's franchise tag on him when negotiations for a long term contract fizzled out. Hurney made it clear that Peppers was, in the team's eyes, an absolute necessity to the team's future plans, and went so far as to answer questions from fans on a local radio show following the team's decision to place [...] Continue reading →
Carolina Panthers' Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers was named today in a release by the NFL that detailed the 15 active players participating in this year's Pro Bowl who are also on the league's All-Decade team of the 2000's. The full 53-man roster will be released on Sunday during Pro Bowl coverage, but the list that including this year's participants was made available Wednesday.  Peppers is the third Panther to be included on an All-Decade roster in the team's fifteen year history.  Kevin Greene and Michael Bates were on the All-1990's squad. Peppers was drafted second overall in the 2002 draft by the Panthers, who were coming off the dreadful 1-15 season of 2001.  Pep was John Fox's first draft pick, and was the first selection in what turned out to be the team's best [...] Continue reading →
Who would you rather the Saints face this Saturday? A team that has given up 14 points in the past 3 games or the defense that gave up 45 points in their last game? The Dallas Cowboys are on fire right now, where as the Cardinals defense has been so much 'bark' than 'bite'. You know who does the trash talking for the Cardinals....the defense, if there was a side of the ball that should be keeping their mouths shut this week it would be and should be the Cardinals defense. Have you heard the reports that Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle said [paraphrased] that he would rather face Drew Brees over Aaron Rodgers.......WHAAAAAAAT??? All Rodgers' did was light you up for 45 points....35 of the points coming in half way through the 3rd quarter and all of the 4th quarter...at home [...] Continue reading →
The Saints last game was on the road against the Carolina Panthers. With the number one seed locked up the Saints rested most of their starters and gave playing time to other football players on the 53 man roster. With nothing on the line accept pride, the Saints...or rather the Saints' back ups lost 10-23. Even though they lost and did not put up a fight there were some players that had an impact on the game, unfortunately most came from the Carolina side. The rare few that did a good job for the Saints in their last regular season game are: Runningback Lynell Hamilton. The former San Diego State stand out had a great all around game. In total he collected 86 yards. Hamilton ran for 48 yards on ten carries and caught 3 passes for 38 yards. I like that even though he does not see a [...] Continue reading →
With the number 1 seed securely in the hands of the Saints, the personal department has let it be known that quarterback Drew Brees as well as a some of the other starters with not play in order to insure their health for the playoffs. I know the fantasy of a perfect season is behind us now, but I firmly believe that the Saints are a team that needs momentum, energy, mojo in order to play to their fullest. When the road Saints square off against the Carolina Panthers it will be crucial for whomever is out on that field with a Saints jersey to make sure they give it their all so that when the playoffs start that the Saints have their swagger back. The last act for the Saints in the regular season is to end their season on a 3 game skid. The Panthers' have shown us that despite being out [...] Continue reading →
Heartless. On a day that was supposed to be filled with great NY Giant memories as fans and players saluted the house that Wellington Mara built, the NY Giants football team laid down with the most uninspiring play I have ever seen. Even with Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor, arguably the best linebacker the NFL has ever seen and clearly the most dominant player to ever wear Giant blue, in the house, this squad could not find enough inspiration to stop the Carolina Panthers on "one" of their first five offensive drives. The aftermath was just as gutless, as Osi Umenyiora, who is supposed to be one of the team's defensive leaders complained about his playing time, lack of snaps, and the end of his career as a New York Giant. Hey, Osi...you're under contract, so how about you keep [...] Continue reading →
Well kids, the Bills lost again this time to the Patriots who have not won a game on the road until this past Sunday. I guess you could call this win for the Patriots a Christmas gift that was beautifully wrapped by the Bills. I am interested to see how the fans of Buffalo are holding up when I visit my family this week in western New York. Even though the Bills will be in Atlanta next weekend, I have a feeling the Bills faithful will not be too pleased about their play on the field against the Patriots. I am bummed that I will not be able to see a Bills game when I arrive, but I will be able to see a Sabres game. Thank you Lord!!! Of course, my odds are better at seeing the Sabres win a game then the Bills. The Bills continue to wind down their disappointing season with a trip to [...] Continue reading →
What a weird season for the New England Patriots.  Even a 20-10 win over the Carolina Panthers doesn't quite feel like a victory.  That's what happens when Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has to spend time addressing his roster decisions (RE: OLB Adalius Thomas getting benched).  That's what happens when we have to wonder if QB Tom Brady made it through a game without a new injury (or baby).  That's what happens when the other three AFC East teams also win.  And that's what happens when Panthers defensive backs are commenting on the visible difference of effort between Patriots WRs Randy Moss and Wes Welker. The victory puts the Patriots at 8-5 and they maintain their one game lead on the AFC East with three games remaining, but the seeds of dissension have been planted [...] Continue reading →
It is game day for the 1SKILLZ Gameplan!!!  The 7-5 New England Patriots will host the 5-7 Carolina Panthers today at Gillette Stadium.  The Patriots are coming off a last minute 22-21 loss to the Miami Dolphins last week, and are a lost football team at the moment.  The Panthers forced five INTs of Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie QB Josh Freeman last week and won 16-6. This will be only the second game between the Panthers and Patriots at New England; the first was a Panthers 20-17 OT win in 1995, their first season in the NFL.  The Patriots defeated the Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII 32-29.  The last meeting between the two teams was in 2005, a 27-17 Panthers win at Carolina.  The Patriots won 17 in a row against the NFC since that game until losing to the New Orleans Saints 38-17 [...] Continue reading →
