With several teams falling just short of the playoffs this year, it begs the question, what of these teams can find a way to secure the two or three extra wins necessary to take themselves into the playoffs. This mid-range covers all 7-9 and 8-8 teams, as well as the 9-7’s that fell short of a wildcard berth.
Chicago Bears
The Bear narrowly avoided entrance to the first list by way of back to back wins to close out the year. A preseason darling for a deep postseason run, Chicago lands itself as one of the biggest disappointments of the year.
Why They Can: Defensive emotional leader Brian Urlacher was gone for the year. With him back the team will have more fire and swagger. Jay Cutler may be turnover prone, but he can air the [...]

On Monday night the Minnesota Vikings will travel to the ultra famous Soldier Field of Chicago to take on the Chicago Bears. Coming into the season people circled this game on the calendar, as many thought that it could be a game that determined the NFC North winner or at least have some kind of playoff implication.
Well, they could not have been more wrong. The Vikings have flourished so far this season reaching a 11-3 record through week 15. On the complete other spectrum, the Bears have looked out of sync and without inspiration for much of the season and their 5-9 record has earned them a spot in the top three of the most disappointing teams of the year.
During the off-season both the Vikings and Bears added Pro Bowl quarterbacks to their rosters, Brett Favre and Jay Cutler [...]

Olin Kreutz, an 11 year veteran has been voted to six pro bowls, played in 170 games and has blocked for about I don’t know how many quarterbacks. A lot! Anyway he is not having the greatest season so far, but you can’t put all the blame on just him. Packers rookie DT B.J. Raji who was a first round pick out of Boston College didn’t play in the season opening game in Green Bay, but he had lots to say about Bears center Olin Kreutz.
Here’s what he said:
“It’s nothing physical, it’s all technical, I’m stronger than the guy. I mean, that’s not really talking (smack), he’s [...]

They are who we thought they were.
That all-time classic Cardinals' collapse is one of the most painful sports memories in my life to date. In case you have been living under a rock let me reminisce a bit and break down the circumstances of that 2006 game for you.
I followed the Dave McGinnis-coached Cardinals (2000-2003), who always seemed to be a couple of star players away from being able to turn the corner. Sound familiar? Yes I know, that adequately describes just about every team the Cardinals had fielded in the history of the franchise. Still, if you are a fan you are a fan, you are stuck with your team through thick and thin no matter what.
Anquan Boldin had his phenomenal rookie campaign in McGinnis' final season, the same season that undrafted fan favorite Marcel Shipp [...]

The media icon that is the NFL seemed to go from a league with players playing to win and get the prize inside every box (the Super Bowl) to a league that's been loaded with player conduct problems, divas, and players just in it for the money.
On Aug. 8, 2006, Roger Goodell was selected to succeed retiring commissioner Paul Tagliabue, voted on by 31 NFL GMs (Oakland abstained from all voting).
Goodell officially became the acting commissioner on [...]

Today we’ll take a look at former Bears safety Brandon McGowan.
McGowan appeared in only 25 games with the Bears from 2005-2009 is the starting free safety for the New England Patriots.
McGowan moved ahead of James Sanders to claim the starting job in a week two loss against the New York Jets. McGowan has made a big impact for the Patriots defense. He has appeared in five games, making 29 tackles, two pass deflections and forcing one fumble. I’ve seen some of the Patriots games this season [...]

The Bears have weapons on offense for Jay Cutler.
I don’t understand why no one sees that.
Tight ends Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark are probably the best tight end tandem in the NFL and running back Matt Forte was the Bears leading receiver last season.
The Bears haven’t really had good wide receivers over the last couple of years.
Personally I like the Bears wide receivers, but I have to admit they’re very inexperienced.
Besides Hester and Davis, none of them haven’t caught a pass in the NFL.
ESPN says the Bears have no chance to win the division because they didn’t surround Jay Cutler with [...]

Tennessee Titans 19, Green Bay Packers 16
This may have been the best game of the day, and nearly half the people who watched it did not get to see the ending because FOX took them to their local market broadcast of New York vs. Dallas. This begs the question: if FOX has the doubleheader for the day – which they did – then why can’t the NFL just push back the start time of the Cowboys-Giants game by 15 minutes or so and give the Titans-Packers audience a chance to see a great ending to a great game? The [...]
