Are the San Francisco 49ers copying the management style of the San Francisco Giants? Say it ain't so!
The San Francisco 49ers have made their first free agent signing on Monday by agreeing to terms on a two-year contract with quarterback David Carr.
Signing a veteran player with a mediocre track record is all too familiar to San Francisco fans, but usually these moves aren't announced by their football team.
However, despite already having three quarterbacks worthy of returning to the roster this upcoming season, the 49ers felt it necessary to sign a fourth.
Why you may ask? Well, nobody really knows at this point.
All anyone can really say is that the signing can be best described by 49er linebacker Patrick Willis who stated his opinion on the [...]

No, this is not an article suggesting that the San Francisco 49ers should draft Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen nor that backup quarterbacks Shaun Hill or Nate Davis should take over the starting job from Alex Smith.
The former No. 1 draft choice from 2005 showed enough improvement on the field in 2009 to be the starter going into to the 2010 season.
However, if Smith were either injured or benched due to inconsistent play (and let's face it, that is all we have ever seen from him), Shaun Hill is not the best choice to replace him.
Now prior to last season, I was in the same boat as many other 49er followers in that Hill deserved a chance to lead this team out of the gate. Hill had done enough to think that his safe, ball control style with a strong running game could get San [...]

Less than six months ago, Alex Smith, San Francisco's first overall draft choice from 2005, had been beaten out for the 49ers' starting quarterback spot by career journeyman Shaun Hill.
After two straight injury filled seasons, Smith's future as an NFL starter seemed incredibly bleak after losing the quarterback competition in training camp.
Heading into the 2009 season the 49ers were looking to play a hard-hitting defensive style while eating up the clock on offense with star running back Frank Gore.
Fortunately for Smith, this type of football stopped working five games into the season when San Francisco was [...]

Another San Francisco 49er nemesis has retired. The 49er faithful hope this one stays retired.
If he does, the NFC West will be wide open in 2010.
Early Friday afternoon, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner officially hung up his cleats after a 12-year career that includes two MVPs and three Super Bowl appearances including one Super Bowl ring.
Two of the three teams (and the two that saw him lead them to the Super Bowl) Warner played for were division foes of the 49ers.
Warner first torched the 49ers as a member of the St. Louis Rams and the "Greatest Show on Turf" and then after a dismal stint with the New York Giants, returned to the NFC West as a member of the Cardinals and decimated the [...]

Oh, I can recall a time not too long ago when I didn’t even imagine this article would need to be written. Looking back to week four, the 49ers were looking good. They sat at 3-1 and nowhere to go but up. They controlled their own destiny. Nobody was telling us anything, they were showing us. So what happened?
The Niners season has been plagued with what are called “morale victories”. Basically, this team finished 7-9 last season under Mike Nolan and naturally, some time for improvement was needed. The team could handle a loss every now and then so long as this looked like an improved unit when all was said and done.
And they did. In week three the 49ers got their first loss of the season, but what did it take? It took the play [...]

Are you serious? The Colts actually won this game? Jeez, by the way they played, man, it looked their butts would get kicked, badly! Only one touchdown came in this game, and four field goals by a 40-year-old dude named Matt Stover.
Alex Smith looked like he gained his trust from the 49ers and it’s fans by his performance that you wouldn’t expect if you look at Indy’s pass defense and what they have done for the past five [...]
