2010 offseason

The Chicago Bears have officially made the biggest moves in free agency they basically had no choice. They wee forced to add big time players because this could be the last year with this coaching staff and they don’t have a draft pick until the third round. Julius Peppers is an instant upgrade at DE. Put him on the defensive line with Tommie Harris, Alex Brown and Mark Anderson and this line could be the best since their Super Bowl season. The Bears added a tight end today. His name is Brandon Manumaleuna he almost immediately signed a five-year deal after he walked through the doors of Halas Hall. Manumaleuna spent the last four years in San Diego and before that was with Mike Martz and Lovie Smith in St. Louis. The 30 year old tight end was the best available tight end and Martz values the tight end as a blocker more than a receiver. With the addition of  Manumaleuna he can now team [...] Continue reading →

The Carolina Panthers have seemingly taken a 180-degree turn in their pursuit of Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers. According to his agent, Carl Carey, the Panthers have "not made a single inquiry this offseason" in regards to contract negotiations with the team's top pick in the 2002 draft. This is a complete reversal of their strategy from last year, where head coach John Fox and general manager Marty Hurney seemed adamant about keeping Peppers in town, eventually placing the team's franchise tag on him when negotiations for a long term contract fizzled out. Hurney made it clear that Peppers was, in the team's eyes, an absolute necessity to the team's future plans, and went so far as to answer questions from fans on a local radio show following the team's decision to place [...] Continue reading →
