2010 NFL Draft

The Seahawks have officially released veteran safety Deon Grant the team announced this afternoon. Grant joined the Seahawks back in 2007 when he signed a six-year $31.8 million dollar contract which at the time made Grant the third highest paid safety in the NFL behind the Ravens Ed Reed and the Cowboys Roy Williams. Grant was a part of that "home run hitting" free agent class that Seattle attempted to bring in which also included defensive end Patrick Kerney, guard Kris Deilman and tight end Daniel Graham. Graham and Deilman rejected offers to come to Seattle and instead chose Denver and San Diego respectively. Deon Grant was scheduled to make [...] Continue reading →
With Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback recently being in the news for harassment as well as other possible charges involving an incident outside Atlanta, the Rooney family is not so high on Big Ben. This is his second off the field incident (he's currently fighting a civil suit in Nevada for sexual assault) and could be willing to part with the star quarterback. The Steelers have said they would be content with current backup Dennis Dixon as the team’s starting quarterback or could acquire one via the NFL draft, but Dixon would be the more immediate choice. So who would be interested in the 28-year old quarterback? The [...] Continue reading →
It's March, and everybody who has ever written two words about the NFL is doing a mock draft. I'm part of that "everybody," but rather than take on the whole league, I'm going to focus on the good old NFC North. What follows is a team-by-team breakdown of each team's projected 2010 needs, and how they will choose to fill them in rounds one and two (sorry, Bears fans). Minnesota Vikings It's no secret that the old Black and Blue Division has been looking [...] Continue reading →
Greg Olsen was supposedly Jay Cutler’s go to guy and they had clicked from day one of training camp, but last season Olsen didn’t play up to the level people thought he could have. Fast forward to this off-season and the Bears have already made a lot of changes. They hired a new offensive line coach, offensive coordinator, promoted Rod Marinelli to defensive coordinator, released over the hill lineman Orlando Pace and they are said to be interested in Julius Peppers once free agency starts this Friday. The new offensive coordinator Mike Martz replaced Ron Turner, who [...] Continue reading →
The results are in and the 2010 NFL combine is officially over. Next up, the Pro Days at the players schools. It happened to be a weekend that I was sick and laying up on the couch in pain. I sat through all of the NFL Networks coverage and you can bet, I have some opinions. Lets tackle those quickly. Rich Eisen is the best host on any TV show I've ever witnessed.  The guy is just amazing at keeping some pretty... opinionated ex-players in line. I'm being kind using the word opinionated however. If anyone has sat through three hours of Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp or Shannon Sharpe you know what I mean. I look forward to Chad Johnson OchoCinco retiring so he can take his rightful place next to Rich on the network. Now lets go [...] Continue reading →
This isn't Pete Carroll's first go around as an NFL head coach but it is his first off season as a NFL head coach AND executive vice president.  Not only is Carroll the EVP and head coach but if there is a discrepancy between Carroll and new general manager John Schneider, Pete Carroll would win the coin flip 100 percent of the time. According to Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke the team will be built around both Carroll and Schneider but should their be a discrepancy about a trade/signing/draft pick Carroll would be awarded his decision because the team is going to be built around Carroll's philosophy. Now as [...] Continue reading →
As the free agency deadline nears the major movement in the NFL has come from the running back position this past week with five running backs being let go or non tendered to free agency. San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson, Philadelphia's Brian Westbrook, Cleveland's Jamal Lewis, San Diego's Darren Sproles and New Orleans' Mike Bell. Also New York Jets running back Thomas Jones will be released next week so he will be added to the list when that becomes official. Terrell Owens was informed by the Buffalo Bills Saturday that the 36 year old wide receiver would not be back with the organization in 2010 making him a free agent. The New [...] Continue reading →
GM Thomas Dimitroff struck gold a second time today winning the coin toss against the Houston Texans for the 19th overall selection in the draft. It was two years ago when Dimitroff was a rookie General Manager and won a three way coin flip against the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders. With that selection, he chose Matt Ryan from Boston College. This year, the focus will be on defense and at the 19th pick there should be some good talent remaining. The NFL combine continues today and it's focus is on positions of need for the Falcons. The defensive line, linebackers and [...] Continue reading →
The million dollar question looming in Seattle is centered around Pete Carroll and what he wants to do at the quarterback position. Carroll and Schneider are in a rough position because they have come in during the middle of a horrendous rebuilding process, which was created by former Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell. Matt Hasselbeck is entering into the final year of his contract and with the amount of injuries he's had over the past two years his future, with the current offense is questionable. The Seahawks have Seneca Wallace and Mike Teel behind Hasselbeck and neither have the complete package to be a 16+ game starter in [...] Continue reading →
Is a "change of pace" backfield overrated? Not in today's NFL.  Some say "running back by committee."  I say offensive game plan by design!  The NY Giants are in company with San Diego, Minnesota, Tennessee, the New York Jets, the Ravens, and the Miami Dolphins to name a few teams that rotate very good backs. But what happens when the staple of your franchise hits the skids? That's what happened during the 2009 football season for the New York Giants.  There once powerful running game turned up a bit lame.  Could it be injuries or the O-line wear n' tear?  Only the football gods may know the truth; however, do the Giants have what it takes to run inside and outside the tackles?  I am not convinced that Jacobs and Bradshaw are the right mix for success in 2010. History does [...] Continue reading →
