The Bills 2009 draft class brought broken knees, league leading interceptions and several tackles. of course, almost all the players taken were defense, I wonder why?
Well, the Bills season is still not out of our heads after what was supposed to be a surprise playoff year with a busy off-season and a "win at all stakes" mentality. Of course, we know how this story ends right? I mean, I don't have to go through it and write about again, do I? Please say I don't.

The Raiders drafted Darious Heyward-Bey at the #7 pick in the 2009 draft and he had a terrible 2009. He had more drops than catches in his rookie season which was cut short with an injury. Already there are many Raiders fans and football fans calling him the bust of the draft. He didn't help his case as he finished his season with 9 catches and 1 TD. Those numbers were doubled by Brandon Marshall in 1 game. Compared to rookies, he was still terrible. Michael Crabtree, Hakeem Nicks, Percy Harvin (pro bowl) and Jeremy Maclin all had much better rookie seasons. But compared to Raiders first round picks since 2005, how bad has he been?
Fabian Washington (2005) didn't last more than 3 years, he was traded to Baltimore for a mid-round draft pick. Michael Huff [...]

Sevens months ago, the New York Giants drove 15 minutes into New York City and arrived at Radio City Music Hall for the 2009 NFL draft. That day the Giants brass left with nine unknown players who would hopefully make an impact for the New York Giants.
With their first pick in the 2009 draft, the New York Giants invested in North Carolina’s star wide receiver Hakeem Nicks.
It was a heavy wide receiver draft, so how did the Giants know they got the right guy? They didn’t! Reports circulated around the sports community that the Giants wanted wide receiver Jeremy Maclin from Missouri; however, the [...]

2009 NFL Draft,
Bill Kenney,
David Vobora,
Jeff Reed,
Kansas City Chiefs,
Kelvin Kirk,
Mr. Irrelevant,
NFL,
Pittsburgh Steelers,
Rhys Lloyd,
Ryan Succop
In the 1976 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers were the first team to ever select Mr. Irrelevant. 33 Years later, no one would have imagined that the Steelers would regret being the trend setter.
Ryan Succop, the 254th overal pick in the NFL draft this year became the 4th "Mr. Irrelevant" to ever start in the NFL. For those who don't know what that is, "Mr. Irrelevant" is the player who is picked very last in the draft every year. Oddly enough, the NFL actually gives a prize pack away to the player who is picked last. The NFL will give the "winner" is a week long expense-paid vacation, where they hold events to celebrate the players "irrelevance" in the draft, and even give the player a "fake" trophy that resembles the Heisman Trophy(which is the NCAA's MVP trophy.)
Ironically, the [...]

When I combine the terms "Detroit Lions" and "draft," a few things might pop into your head.
The first is likely "wide receiver." The second, "first-round bust." Then "Harrington," "Mike Williams," "Charles Rogers," etc. The list goes on, tallying far more negatives than positives.
But how far down the list are the words "second-round bust?"
Sure, a second-round bust is not as spectacular a failure as the all-too-common first-round variety, but they're arguably just as important, and for the Lions, they're even more consistent.
Louis Delmas, the 33rd overall pick and the first of the second round, looks great so far in Lions OTAs. He's known as a hard hitter, and he has done an exceptional job learning the ins and outs of the NFL game so far, according to his coaches.
He [...]

As NFL's Christmas comes to a close, the luster of the one weekend in April when everyone wears football jerseys comes to an end. The Minnesota Vikings have done little this offseason to prepare the team for 2009 in hopes the draft would supply everything they would need. The Vikings went in with six picks and in the end only used five as one was traded away to Washington for higher 5th round pick.
Here's how this weekend shook down for the Vikings...
Round 1: #22 Pick Overall - WR Percy Harvin (Florida) Overall Grade: A- [...]

He wasn't expected to be there in the 4th round, but the Bills were sure glad he was still on the board.
Top rated tight end Shawn Nelson took an unexpected free fall and was snatched up by the Buffalo Bills with the 121st overall selection in this year's NFL Draft. The former wide receiver will have the chance to make an immediate impact on the field.
Tight end has been a position in Buffalo that recently has been turned into the sixth offensive linemen. The Bills went after guys who could help out greatly in the run block. Robert Royal was the latest tight end to fit this mold for Buffalo, but was released in the off-season, creating a hole in the depth chart.
While a blocking tight end is nice to have on the roster, he should be a guy you pick up for cheap in free agency [...]

It has been two days since the draft. I've had mixed feelings on its results, so much so that I needed to sleep on it -- twice -- to feel enough at ease to write about it.
I sense a lot of discontent in the wake of the draft. Much of that, I imagine, was latent aggravation with taking Matthew Stafford first overall, which kind of soured the whole draft for many.
I'm not hearing many complaints about Stafford anymore, and obviously, this is part of the healing process.
Like the period after an election, this is the part where we all realize our petty arguments over who best to lead us for the next several years have become moot. We have our guy, and it's time for everyone to throw our support behind him, whether we wanted him or not.
Having said that, it occurs to me that not [...]

The Detroit Lions' most anticipated day of the year has come and gone, and of all the players I would have liked to see go to Detroit, I saw... none of them.
I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a little disappointing. But disappointing doesn't necessarily mean bad. Not in this case.
Now, I refuse to do something so narrow-minded as attach "grades" to a draft prospect mere hours after their selection. This can serve no purpose but to give everyone something to laugh at years later when I'm completely off the mark.
Still, I have some things to say about the draft thus far. None of it was quite what I wanted or expected, but each selection has some merit to it.
Matthew Stafford, well, it's no secret that I'm against this move. It's not that I don't think he'll be good. He very well [...]

"People talk about the fact it's a negative that we were here in the past. I view that as a positive -- we have an opportunity to understand the mistakes that were made in the past and learn from those mistakes." - Lions GM Martin Mayhew, December 31, 2008, in his introductory press conference.
I have been largely impressed with GM Martin Mayhew and team president Tom Lewand since Matt Millen was fired last September.
They assembled a very strong-looking coaching staff for the years ahead. They have done a good job of cutting dead weight, and filling needs by signing cheap free agents with upside. They filled a major need at strong-side linebacker by trading for a Pro Bowler.
They fleeced the Dallas Cowboys by getting a starting cornerback for Jon Kitna, and three draft picks for [...]
