Stop the rumors about Vick, the Bills have….?
Hey fans, yes, the rumors are true about Michael Vick’s adviser, former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy expressing his personal interest about Vick joining the Buffalo Bills next year. In the same conversation, the Bills were also in the mix of acquiring Vick’s services before the season started along with Bengals. This of course, was after his prison sentence for dog fighting was completed.
Now, I am not saying that the rumors for next season have been completely thrown out the window, but when it comes right down to it, the Bills have two starting QBs already, Edwards and Fitzpatrick. Furthermore, what has Vick done this year for the Eagles that could contribute to the success of the Bills next season? Vick, has completed 2 of 6 passes for 6 yards and rushed 12 times for 27 yards, mostly out of the Wildcat formation.
Returning QB Edwards was asked about the possibility of Vick joining the team, he responded by saying “I feel like we’ve got guys upstairs working those personnel moves, and if they feel like that’s going to be the best fit for this team, and they feel like that’s going to help us win football games, I’m sure they’re going to do that without my opinion on it.”
The Bills have enough problems to fix before bringing in another QB. The QBs need someone to throw that can catch the ball. You can have Joe Montana taking snaps this season, but the Bills receiver core still would not know what to do. The Bills come into this weeks game against the two win Tennessee Titans and Vince Young. The Bills, who are 3-5 are ranked 29th in total offense and 30th in passing offense.
No matter who is taking snaps for the Bills, they have only produced nine touchdowns all season, ten if you include the great pass for a touchdown from punter Brian Moorman. Yes, the punter.
Maybe, just maybe, it is not the receiver core that is the problem maybe it is the QB situation in Buffalo. The Bills have not made the playoffs since 2009 and have had a turn-style door at quarterback — going through nine starters — since Hall of Famer Jim Kelly(who is not a hall of famer in my book) retired following the 1996 season.
As mentioned earlier, the Bills go to Tennessee this week to take on the Titans. Besides Edwards, the Bills offense welcomes back starting tight end Shawn Nelson. Nelson is coming off migraine problems and has not played in the last two weeks.
Hopefully, this week Jarius Byrd and/or Donte Whitner can pick off Vince Young and score some touchdowns, because the offense won’t do it. Of course, special teams will score thanks to the wonderful kicking of Lindell.
I am taking the Bills in this contest, improving their record to 4-5.
Let’s go Buffalo!!!!!!
Jeremy, I’m going to have to disagree a little bit. The Bills do not have two starting quarterbacks. They have two quarterbacks who happened to have started. But on most other teams, those QB’s would be backups. Edwards is inconsistent and Fitzpatrick has a weak arm (by NFL standards). If you’re the Bills, why wouldn’t you take a chance on a talent like Vick? He’ll have had an entire year to get ready and train, he should be able to regain his form.
Hey Jarid,
Yes, this is a great debate. The QB situation in Buffalo has Bills fans wondering what to do with these two guys. Skill level, I feel Edwards is better then Fitzpatrick, but Fitzpatrick has proven that he can be a great backup if he has a great QB in front of him. This is something Fitzpatrick had in Cincy with Palmer, but does not have in Buffalo with Edwards. There is not doubt Vick is talented, but lots of people use the word “was” in front of that phrase. Vick has done nothing in Philly this year and the year before that he was in jail. The year before that he had a horrible year. Throw in all his personal issues, Vick comes with a Uhaul of baggage. Vick will never be the QB he once was in Atlanta. He had his day and for the next couple of years he will slowly fade out and hopefully he saves his money this time.
