Saints Use Hart to kick their way to Miami!
It is the classic scenario, who would win talent or heart?
On paper it appears as though the Vikings would have won the game with some of the statistics piled up in last Sunday’s NFC Championship game. But the Saints play with unextinguishable fire that fuels the Super Dome and the city of New Orleans….which was evident after the game was over and the streets of downtown New Orleans were flooded, not with water, but with fans cheering in celebration of their team’s victory and advancing to the Super Bowl!!!
When you look at the statistics it seems like the Saints should have lost this game by at least a touchdown if not more points. But what the Saints had on their side that game was the thing that they have had on their side all season long….heart. There a ton of categories that the Vikings did not just win, but dominated the catagories:
1st Downs:
Saints: 15 Vikings: 31
Total Plays:
Saints: 55 Vikings: 82
Total Yards:
Saints: 257 Vikings: 475
But there are two categories in which that matter most…
Fumbles Lost:
Saints: 1 Vikings: 3
Score:
Saints: 31 Vikings: 28
Don’t get me wrong the Saints played well, or rather they did what they needed to do in order to walk away with a “W”. Brees did what he needed to do, drive the offense up the field and managed to see around the Williams’ Wall (Pat and Kevin Williams, defensive tackles for the Minnesota Vikings) who would be intimidating to any quarterback let alone one that is barely six feet tall, making it nearly impossible to see over those behemoths the Vikings had on defense. The Offensive Line deserves a lot of accolades because they only gave up one sack the entire game. Give special acknowledgment to Jermon Bushrod who did a fantastic job against Jared “playing like a beast” Allen who had been on a tear leading up to this game. Pierre Thomas had another fantastic game for the Saints! If Brees is the key to start the engine that is the Saints offense, then Thomas is the power steering that provides the a steadiness to help sustain drives along the grid iron!
It seems fitting that the Saints’ won the game from the kicker name Hartley. This season has been priceless for the Saints and Saints fans in New Orleans all over the country.
Keep it up Saints!!! One more BABY!
Go Saints!!!!
Saints didn’t win the championship……Vikings lost it.
Yeah, there is an new saying over the last couple of years …..
I’d rather be lucky than good…the Minn Viking were the better that day but they were also very bad at protecting the ball. The Saints did just enough not to shoot themselves in the foot… Unlike the GUNSLINGER (BRET) … The Saints were just BREEZING (DREW) and squeaked out a win…better to be lucky than good …. this goes for being with a women too!!
Big Al
Agreed — the Saints didn’t win it, the Vikings lost it. Even with all their unforced turnovers, the Vikings still would have won had the refs done merely an adequate (as opposed to an inept or corrupt) job. I hate seeing that!
