Quick Hits from the Jets vs. Bills Thursday Night Game
The Jets climb back to .500 at 6-6 with a 19-13 victory over the Bills and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Here are some quick thoughts about the game in Toronto:
1. Darrelle Revis continues to prove he is the top corner in the league shutting down Terrell Owens, yet again, for three receptions and 31 yards. Also grabbing a clutch interception which sealed the deal for the Jets.
2. Kerry Rhodes did absolutely nothing Thursday, only getting 1 tackle. While starter, Eric Smith continues to establish himself, especially on a clutch pass rush, on 3rd down in the third quarter which force an incompletion from Ryan Fitzpatrick. Will the Jets get rid of Kerry in the off season? If Eric Smith keeps doing well and Kerry Rhodes keeps playing horrible there might be a good chance he will be gone by the 2010 season.
3. Mark Sanchez color coded system continues to work as when he was in he did not force anything and made some smart passes. He finished the game with 104 yards 1 TD and no picks in the limited time he played.
4. I guess Joe Girardi was a waste, Sanchez should have slid on that third down even if he was not going to get the firs down. Rex Ryan said in the post game press conference he thinks it is a sprained knee, but they are going to give Sanchez an MRI as a precaution. Good thing the Jets got a long week until their game against the Bucs.
5. Congrats to Thomas Jones for getting his fifth consecutive 1,000 yard season tonight. The running game continues to bail the Jets out with 249 yards rushing tonight and is very impressive especially without any passing game.
6. Rex Ryan finally made a good timeout calling one so that the booth could review Braylon’s touchdown. It is about time after his long streak of bad timeouts.
7. Jets defense did a tremendous job on putting pressure on Ryan Fitzpatrick forcing him to 98 yards and nine completions on 23 throws. Credit the corners also for playing outstanding coverage on Lee Evans and Owens.
8. Who knew Fullback Tony Richardson could run like that? Richardson had 2 rushes for 36 yards Thursday after only having 12 rushing yards before.
9. Kudos to Owens for not making an effort to fight for the ball on Fitzpatrick’s passes.
10. I am glad Braylon Edwards decided to stop using his head to catch the ball in the second quarter.
11. And finally, the Jets had no turnovers for the second time all season. That is a huge improvement from the last three games.
The Jets did not get an impressive win, but a win is a win and the Jets live to fight another day, lets hope Sanchez can play next week against the Bucs.
