North of the Border; Bills lose again

The Bills traveled north of the border this past Thursday evening to take on their in-state neighbors the Jets. Coming into this game the Bills had high expectations of getting a two game win streak going after a great win against the Dolphins the previous Sunday. Unfortunately, this would turn out to not be the case.

This game was probably the WORST all-around game I have seen the Bills play all season. Of course, against the Dolphins the previous week, I thought that was the BEST all-around game the Bills had played all year. Irony, is it not?

This game would also be the worst game Ryan Fitzpatrick would play as a starter. Fitzpatrick finished the game 9-of-23 for 98 yards, no touchdowns, one interception and two fumbles (one was thankfully recovered). Being that the QB was having such a horrible game, you would think the running back core would step up, but they did not. Fred Jackson finished the game with 31 yards on 13 attempts and Marshawn Lynch finished the game with the Bills lone touchdown and 60 yards on six attempts. Now, if you are adding these numbers up along with some other meaningless numbers, you will have a grand total of 194 total yards of offense for the Bills the entire game. One word comes to mind with that number, pathetic.

The defense did not help either. The dynamic backfield did not pick off one ball even though it was a rookie QB playing against them. Did I mention that the Bills beat the Jets in Week Six when the Jets were a “hot” team? Now the Jets are worse than in they were in Week Six and the Bills lose to them. The defense did force two fumbles, which were countered with no points to be shared on the scoreboard.

The Bills defense would let Jets QB Mark Sanchez (before he left the game for not knowing how to slide) accrue 104 yards of passing and one touchdown. The Jets running back core led by Thomas Jones accrued 249 yards on the ground. Led by Thomas Jones who had 109 on 23 attempts the running back core would also go on to control both the game and the game clock. Time of possession for the Jets was 35:10 compared to the Bills 24:50. This is the key stat to the Bills loss.

Is this season over yet?

The Bills will now go back to Buffalo, lick their wounds, take the weekend off and then begin preparing for the December 13th game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs welcome the Bills to Kansas City with open arms, because even though the Chiefs have a worse record then the Bills, they now can very much beat them to improve their record.

The Chiefs have the 30th ranked offense in the league one worse then, you guessed it, the Bills who are 29th. Thank god for Oakland and Cleveland. On the defensive side of the ball, the Chiefs are ranked 30th and the Bills are ranked 23rd. For the Chiefs sake, thank god for the Browns and the Lions.

Looking at the remaining three games of the regular season after the Chiefs, the Bills play the Patriots (loss), the Falcons (who are pushing for a playoff spot–loss), and finally the probably undefeated Colts (big loss). I hate to say it, but the Bills have a very good chance of finishing the season if the they beat the Chiefs with a 5-11 record. This would be a horrible finish to and otherwise high expectation filled off-season for them.

The Bills have so many things going against them that it is just sad to see them like this when the former greats are just now being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

You could write an article about the flaws that team has from roster management to coaching to even the owner.
