New Coach, New Starting QB, but still the result; Bills lose to the Jags

First time head coach Perry Fewell led his Buffalo Bills and new starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on to the field Sunday afternoon to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Putting up somewhat of an impressive fight, the Bills managed to almost win in Fewell’s first game as interim head coach.
Overall, I did see signs of improvement on the offensive side of the ball that I have not seen in the last 10 games. New starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick came out of the gate firing all over the field. Not only was he completing passes, but he was finding the end zone. Fitzpatrick went 18-of-31 with one touchdown pass and two interceptions. The touchdown pass was a 98 yarder to Terrell Owens.
This was just the third touchdown for Owens and Fitzpatrick this year. Owens, continued to add to his yard total later in the game by accumulating 197 of total receiving yards.
The Bills running back core was non-existent and virtually a waste of time. I think they should just be extra blockers next week against the Dolphins. The running back core finished the game with 53 yards total, which includes Fitzpatrick’s rushing numbers. Did I mention RB Marshawn Lynch fumbled the ball twice?
On the other side of the ball, the Bills defense, as predicted, could not wrap up Jones-Drew or Sims-Walker to save their lives. Mr. Jones-Drew managed to accumulate 66 yards and one touchdown while Sims-Walker added 91 yards and one touchdown
Bills LB Paul Posluszny led the team in tackles with 11 while Aaron Schobel and Bryan Scott had one sack each. In the backfield Donte Whitner and Jairus Byrd may not have had any interceptions this game, but George Wilson did.
Coming into this game, it was a battle of who cares. Both the Bills and Jags are two teams that I don’t see making the playoffs. The biggest question on the field and within the Bills organization was whether or not new coach Perry Fewell and new starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick would lead their team to victory, which they did not.
However, as mentioned earlier, I saw some improvement on the field. The offense looked more loose and comfortable. They not only threw the ball more, but utilized the great receiver core the Bills have.
Being that the season is winding down, the Bills need to let loose and not be conservative with the ball. The Bills offense has all the necessary tools to at least score three touchdowns a game. Scoring three touchdowns a game, based on the previous week’s numbers, would have allowed them three more victories making them 6-4 on the season.
I wish nothing but the best for new coach Perry Fewell. It has been way too long since success has visited Buffalo and the Bills faithful. Being that he still has the interim title affiliated with his name, the whole Bills organization will be watching to see if he can not only turn this team around, but lead them back to the playoffs. Of course, the Mike Shanahan rumors don’t help with Fewell’s confidence. This tactic could be just that, a tactic to motivate him in the right direction.
The Bills are head back home next week to take on the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins bring their 5-5 record to western New York, which will also be new head coach Perry Fewell’s homecoming. The Bills defense will be tested next week by Dolphins running back, Ricky Williams. Coming into this game, Ricky has with 8 touchdowns, as well as, over 600 yards on the ground. If the defense wants to make a true statement, then it needs to start but stopping this guy.
