It has been a spectacular season for the Jets, as they made their improbably journey to the AFC Championship. Although they did not make it to the super bowl like they hoped for, you still have to applaud them. So without furthur ado, here are my awards from the Jets 2009 season

Rookie of the Year: Although Mark Sanchez helped get us to the post season. Shonn Greene helped lead us to the AFC Championship and for his performances, I have to give the rookie of the year to Shonn Greene. It is a very tough choice, but all Sanchez really did for the Jets is not do horrible (and even in some games he did just that), while his teammates around him have to carry the load for him to fix his mistakes. Shonn Greene on the other hand did a great job being a second running back behind Jones in the regular season, and he carried us in the post season.

The Oldy Award: This award for the best player over 30 has to go to Thomas Jones. Although his lack luster post season performances left us with a bitter about Jones, he still helped carry the Jets offense in the regular season. Jones was third in the league in rushing yard,s and helped Sanchez by taking some of the pressure off of him with the consistent ground and pound.

Biggest Bust: This one was probably the toughest one. I mean we got on one hand, Kerry Rhodes who didn’t have an interception or a sack until week 12. Or we got Braylon “Butter Fingers” Edwards who had trouble catching the whole season. But in the end, it has to go to Vernon Gholston. Drafted at the sixth pick in the 2008 draft, Vernon has yet to get a sack in his first two seasons. And one of his special talents coming out of the draft was supposed to be getting to the quarterback. It took undrafted Jets rookie outside linebacker Jamaal Westerman,  31 and a half less games and counting, to get a sack. And the sad part about Vernon this year is, he still made $9.2 million.

Best 2009 pick-up: Again, another tough one, you got Bart Scott who established a personality and swagger to the    Jets defense, also Marques Douglas who did a great job on the defensive line, but it has to go to Jim Leohnard. Leohnard played smart and always seemed their to make the big plays.  He was always consistant, and he established himself as a leader in the Jets defense.

Offensive MVP: Thomas Jones (see above)

Jets MVP: This one was a no brainer, it has to go to Revis. I am sure you have heard the stats, read about the players he shut down, seen the big plays he made and all that stuff. But Revis was the cornerstone to this Jets team and lets look at why:

If the Jets did not have Revis, Rex Ryan would definitely not have as much confidence in his secondary. This means he would not use the blitz schemes they do now because they don’t have someone to completely lock up the opponents number one receiver.

Without the blitz scheme Rex throws, the Jets would not be able to put as much pressure on the QB and stop the run as well. This would make them a decent defense but certainly not the number one defense they are with Revis.

But without the strong defense, the lacking Jets offense have with a developing Mark Sanchez,  would have to play catchup more which is hard since the Jets are not built as a team that can come back from a large deficit.

Obviously if the Jets did not have Revis, they would not have made the post season.

So what do you think? Do you think Sanchez deserved Rookie of the year instead of Greene? Who was the biggest bust? How will the Jets do next year? Do you think the awards were correct? Let me know down below!

Sanchez deserved ROY because he played all season long. Greene really didn’t come on until the very end. Biggest bust is always Vernon Gholston. Jets will have trouble next season just because everyone is gunning for them!

I agree with Randall about Greene not being ROY and Franchez getting it. Revis is MVP, Scott should have gone to the Pro Bowl!
