Houston Texans and Fantasy Football
The fantasy football magazines are coming out and there are several Texans in the spotlight for fantasy football players to consider.
For those of you who play fantasy sports let’s run down who you should be looking at from the Texans this year.
WR Andre Johnson: Rated in the top 5 amongst wide receivers in the NFL, if you can get him do it but don’t expect him to last into the second round of the draft.
RB Steve Slayton: Rated in the top 15 amongst running backs in the NFL, that being said I am in three leagues and Slayton has not lasted past the first round in any of them (no, I didn’t get him except once). With a healthy backup his carries will drop this year but I believe his actual value will increase.
QB Matt Schuab: Rated in the top 20 in the NFL, the only question is if he can stay healthy. In my leagues he has been going in the late rounds as a backup for bye week. I think he is a safe bet to start as long as you have a good backup.
TE Owen Daniels: Rated in the top 5 in the NFL, he has been going in the middle rounds in my leagues. His touchdown numbers dropped last year (hello running game) but he is still one of the best TE’s playing. I think his yardage will increase again this year but I don’t know about touchdowns. With a healthy backup for Slayton, O.D. may not get as many chances in the red zone this year.
K Kris Brown: Rated in the top 5 in the NFL, we should see his numbers of PAT’s increase with a better red zone offense and hopefully he can get his long ball back.
For those of you who play in leagues where you draft defensive players here are the best of the Texans:
DE Mario Williams: Rated in the top 5 in the NFL. With Smith opposite him we should see his sacks and tackles increase this year.
DE Antonio Smith: Rated in the top 35 in the NFL. His numbers aren’t steller but then again he hasn’t had anyone like Mario opposite him either. I think he will do well in Houston and see his numbers and value increase.
: Rated in the top 5 in the NFL. While his tackle numbers have decreased each year he still is the anchor of the linebackers. With help on both sides now I think his numbers will go back up.
That is the best of the Texans according to the fantasy world. Of course we all know how the season goes and anyone can become a stud or a bust. I tried to get as many of the Texans as I could in my leagues but couldn’t get all of them so we shall see what we see.
In other news Owen Daniels signed his tender but has missed at least a week of training (OTA’s and Minicamp). Hopefully Andre will talk to him and get him back to camp.
Stay tuned Texans fans for more updates and news as the start of the season approaches.
