Dolphins News and Nuggets: Jets Edition

Sorry I’ve been a bit absent lately guys.  Besides being totally disheartened by the Saints loss, and swamped at work, I also nearly cut the tip of my finger off and its been a bit difficult to type.  I won’t be able to crank out keys to the game, but hopefully I should be able to do a full postmortem by Monday or Tuesday.  Until then, here are a few notes before the game.

  1. Will Allen down for the year: Are the Dolphins cursed?  It seems like every time we extend a player, they get some kind of season ending injury.  Greg Camarillo gets a new contract, then tears his ACL.  Patrick Cobbs signs and extension, tears his ACL.  Will Allen is the latest victim, as he went down for the Saints game and has officially been placed on IR.  This means that we will be starting two rookie corners for the remainder of the year.  I’ve seen a disturbingly large portion of the fan base talking about how this is really a good thing because Vontae was going to be starting anyways. . . How is this anything but terrible?!  Allen was our only CB with any experience, the only CB who knew how to break down film and prepare properly, and he helped call plays for the defense and get the DBs in proper alignment.  I know Davis was going to start eventually, but that does NOT mean it is good that it is happening right now, on the road, at a division rival.  All we can home is that Smith and Davis learned there lessons while they could, and that they don’t add to our secondary woes.
  2. Crowder hurt too: Channing Crowder has also been absent from practice all week - reportedly with a shoulder injury.  This would be a disaster for the Jets game, who have over taken us as the best rushing team in the league with back to back 300 yard efforts.  I know Crowder catches a lot of flack for not producing big plays, but does anybody remember how Kansas City chewed us up and spit us out last year?
  3. Ginn to get acquainted with the bench: In a move that surprises exactly nobody, it is being reported that Ginn will see his playing time severely reduced in the future at the expense of Brian Hartline.  Ginn has repeatedly cost us games with untimely drops, and the last straw was bobbling a perfect pass from Chad Henne into the arms of Darren Sharper for a pick 6 (though it SHOULD have been a touchback- still, he never should have even given them a chance).  Its also been reported that he is going half-assed in practice, still runs horrible routes, and still doesn’t have full command of the playbook.  Hartline, meanwhile, has been practicing hard, runs textbook routes, knows the play book better than Ginn,  and had a clutch 67 yard catch and run, good for the second longest play of the day.
  4. Jets still have no class: Do this idiots know when to shut up?  I love intense rivalries, but these people have crossed the line.  Bart Scott talked about how he wants to knock Chad Henne out of the game.  They were complaining that Ronnie Brown and Co.  did an endzone celebration that paid homage to Vernon Carey’s highschool after scoring the game winning TD.  Darrell Revis thinks they outclass us on offense, defense, and special teams and just lost of no good reason.  Even Ryan got in on the fun, mocking Will Allen’s ACL tear.  These people just need to shut up and actually accomplish something before they open their mouths again.

That’s all for now.  Go Dolphins!

Ginn is a bad receiver, yes,but obviously he has a spot as a return man. Wes, were you surprised about what he did Sunday? Where was that return dominance the first two years of his career?
