Do or Die: Jaguars Face Dolphins in Must Win Game
Through thirteen weeks in a very exciting NFL season, the Jacksonville Jaguars are currently sitting with the second wild-card birth in the playoffs. The question now is, can they hold on?
Coming off a very impressive win against Houston, the Jaguars face three tough teams in a row that will determine the fate of the Jaguars’ season.
It all starts this week in Jacksonville against the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins come in a week after defeating the New England Patriots, and are also in the wild-card hunt at 6-6.
A very meaningful game, this game is a do or die situation for Jacksonville. The next two games after Miami are against the undefeated Indianapolis Colts and then the New England Patriots.
With a win against Miami, the Jaguars would pull out their eighth win of the season. Although an 8-8 record probably will not make the playoffs, the probability of beating both the Colts and Patriots seems rather low.
The Jaguars play the Cleveland Browns in week 17, and should pull of a win as the Browns sit currently at 1-11.
If the Jaguars can pull off a win this week against Miami, and in week 17 against Cleveland, then the team may just need to win one of the games against either the Colts or the Patriots.
Last week showed an improved passing game, and a rushing game that stepped up when it was truly needed - at the end of the game.
The Dolphins come into Jacksonville with a young, very impressive quarterback in Chad Henne and the veteran running back Ricky Williams.
The defense will have to play similar to last week, which forced three interceptions and saw players such as Justin Durant, Gerald Alexander, and Derrick Harvey step up.
Harvey recorded his first sack of the season, Alexander had an interception and also laid down the hit that led to Durant’s interception. Durant had an interception and a sack.
Garrard had a very solid game by distributing the ball to virtually every receiver.
The touchdown’s were recorded by Nate Hughes and Ernest Wilford. The starting duo of Torry Holt and Mike Sims-Walker didn’t have much impact throughout the game; however Holt did come through with a couple clutch catches.
The Jaguars may get pro-bowl corner Rashean Mathis back this week, however Derek Cox and Tyrone Brackenridge both played great games last week.
It will be exciting to see if this young, inexperienced Jaguars team can continue their at-home domination and perhaps get that last playoff spot in the AFC.
I’m excited to see the Jags having such unlikely success. It’s a big game against Miami, no doubt (if Dolphins win, they get to 7-6 and would capture the tie-breaker with Jacksonville) but I’m not quite sure I’d call it a must win. Then again, considering Jacksonville still has to play Indy, maybe they do need to chalk up a W this week.
Great points. I call this a must-win because with the Steelers and Ravens right behind us (and the Dolphins), and the fact that we still have to play Indy and New England (NE on the road), the odds of us making the playoffs with a loss this week are very slim compared to if we do win.
