Why do  I get this sudden feeling like no one cares? Maybe its because they probably don’t, and I can’t say I blame them, at all.

On monday, the Chiefs released the former Pro Bowl back, who was just 75 yards short of breaking Priest Holmes team record for rushing yards. Johnson found himself in the doghouse yet again after his recent debacle with the media, where Johnson publically threw out several homosexual slurs towards head coach Todd Haley. Johnson, since joining the Chiefs, has been arrested four times, and twice been suspended by the team for his detrimental conduct.

My first thoughts are thus, why did they even put up with him for so long? Johnson had two good years(the second which many fans say Edwards “destroyed” by having Johnson run as much as he did) and other than that, was in my opinion, overrated. Johnson’s best years were when the offensive line was nothing short of amazing, and his line had Casey Wiegmann(the same Wiegmann that is part of Denver’s elite line) and William Shields, who was a 12 time pro bowler at offensive guard, and William Roaf who was an 11 time pro bowler at offensive tackle. He even had Brian Waters, the current left guard and several time pro bowler. When you have that kind of protection, anyone can look like a pro bowler.

Johnson had the line to help, and sure he was a power back, but what else did he offer. I myself found him to always been the Randy Moss of running backs. He constantly gives no effort, takes off plays, and he can catch at all. For the record, when was the last time he even picked up on the blitz.

I’m glad to see Johnson cut. His 2.7 yards per carry average is horrible, regardless of the lack of help from the offensive line from center to right tackle. Johnson’s inability to receive also makes him very useless in a west coast offense, and his ability to not block well isn’t helping Cassel avoid the pass rush. Thankfully for the Chiefs, they no longer have to deal with Johnson and his 49 million dollar contract.

I personally dont want to go into details about his release. His comments were basically the reason for the Chiefs finally gave up on him, and rightfully so. I think it’s immoral, and wrong for him to say such comments. I don’t understand why athletes don’t think before they speak. I can see the frustration in the press conference, but he did it on Twitter. He had time to think, time to cool off, or even time to confront Haley one on one in a private area to speak to him. I don’t understand how at 29 years old, you can go onto a popular internet site where younger viewers are at, and think spewing out homosexual slurs are something you find appropriate.

As far as Johnson goes, as of 4PM yesterday, he cleared waivers and was no picked up by anyone. I probably speak for everyone when I say “Thank you” to every other 31 teams in the NFL. A player who can’t respect those before him, those in the locker room, or even have the decency to think of the young viewers before repeating such slurs has no right being in the league. Remember players, playing in the NFL is far from a right. It’s a privilage. Ask “Pacman” Jones what happens when you bend the rules.

For now, I expect Jamaal Charles to get the most of the carries for the Chiefs. I don’t see him as a full-time starter, but I cant see why they would waste a pick on a running back when they have much biger needs. Running backs like Darren Sproles, Leon Washington, Chester Taylor are all free agents and great in the pass games, and are all pretty fast backs who are willing to pick up on the blitz. Any of these backs would be good free agent ideas for Kansas City.

It’s good to see Haley taking charge of this team. I never doubted his choices so far with discipline and I will continue to respect them and follow them. Not only do I believe in him because of the Chiefs decision to release Johnson, but it’s his attitude towards the team. I think if the players can get behind Haley more, this team has the potential to turn around very soon
