NFL Preview 2009

This ranking of all 32 NFL teams projects each team's likelihood at winning the Super Bowl in 2009. Thus, the No. 1 team is the most likely Super Bowl winner; the No. 32 team is the least likely Super Bowl winner. For elaboration or explanation, please refer to each team's 2009 preview report (found by clicking the team's icon at the top). 32. Oakland Raiders [...] Continue reading →

Oops. He said No. That sensation felt in the chests of Brad Childress, Zygi Wilf and the rest of the Minnesota Vikings organization is that of a heart stopping. There wasn't an egg the Vikings didn't put in the Brett Favre basekt---not a chip they didn't push to the middle of that Table. In the end, the Packer legend, who had beaten this team 17 times, got them once more. After Favre chose to continue his retirement, there were those who came out and censured Minnesota for handling the courtship so horrendously. They griped that Childress was far too public about his admiration for the future Hall of [...] Continue reading →

Let's get one thing straight: Matt Millen is not the sole culprit of the Detroit Lions' problems. Did Millen deserve to get fired from his GM post last season? Even he would tell you, Sure. Detroit is 31-97 since he was hired back in 2001---the worst record in football during that span. Many of Millen's draft picks didn't work out and he never found the right head coach for this club. That said, Millen wasn’t the problem––he was merely part of a bigger problem. This Lions franchise has won just one playoff game in the last 50 years. The only constant during this era has been owner William Clay [...] Continue reading →

So the Chicago Bears finally did it. They finally broke down and got a franchise quarterback. After starting 37 different signalcallers over the last 171 games, and sending just one quarterback in the last 44 years to the Pro Bowl, the Bears shipped a bounty of goods to Denver in exchange for 26-year-old Jay Cutler. The price was steep, no doubt (quarterback Kyle Orton, two first-round picks and a third-rounder). But no one will remember the price in five years. The Windy City [...] Continue reading →

Got a question for you. Why is no one acknowledging the Green Bay Packers as serious contenders in2009? Not talking about contenders in the mediocre NFC North---talking about Super Bowl contenders. This is where you predictably roll your eyes. Go ahead. After all, the Packers were 6-10 last season. And if the NFL has taught us anything, it's that bad teams don't make instant turnarounds....right? Sarcasm aside, Green Bay really doesn’t have to make a turnaround. People don’t seem to realize that this is virtually the same team that hosted the NFC Championship game two years ago. There are just two major differences between the [...] Continue reading →
