New York Jets

It has been a spectacular season for the Jets, as they made their improbably journey to the AFC Championship. Although they did not make it to the super bowl like they hoped for, you still have to applaud them. So without furthur ado, here are my awards from the Jets 2009 season Rookie of the Year: Although Mark Sanchez helped get us to the post season. Shonn Greene helped lead us to the AFC Championship and for his performances, I have to give the rookie of the year to Shonn Greene. It is a very tough choice, but all Sanchez really did for the Jets is not do horrible (and even in some games he did just that), while his teammates around him have to carry the load for him to fix his mistakes. Shonn Greene on the other hand did a great job being a second running back behind Jones in the [...] Continue reading →
Rex Ryan is continuing to stir up some interesting quotes, even in the offseason. The Huddle reported that Rex Ryan said: "I told our players to wear their Jets stuff and be proud of it," Ryan said. "There's no reason we shouldn't be proud to be a New York Jet. This isn't the Same Old Jets, and any negative connotation that way is crazy." And Ryan added with a laugh, "Like I said, punch somebody in the nose for it if that's the case. That's the way we feel because our football team is tough." In other news, I am going to stop writing anything negative about the Jets. But really, I like this quote, its showing [...] Continue reading →
Ever since 1969, the Jets have been on the doorstep of greatness multiple times, but never getting in. Today was another one of those times, getting the door slammed on them by the Colts in a 30-17 loss in the AFC Championship. The Jets vs. Colts match up was very similar to the last time the Jets made the AFC Championship, in 1998 versus the Broncos. Both Jet teams had the lead, then blew it giving up a big run. In the Jet game in 1998, the Jets led 10-0 in the early third quarter, but the Broncos rallied back and scored 23 unanswered points. As, well in the Jets vs. Colts game, the  Jets were up 17-6 with 2:11 seconds to go in the half, the Jets blew it by letting the Colts score 24 unanswered points. The Jets were left taking the plane back to New York instead of Miami. On [...] Continue reading →
Chamionship Sunday has arrived and the teams remaining are interesting indeed. Who would have ever predicted the Jets making it this far with a rookie coach and rookie quarterback? So today I got up early today and began watching the pre-game show on NFL Network. I love listening to Rich Eisen with his crew of retired coaches and players. He's one of the best Ever at keeping control of his show. GREATEST QUARTERBACK IN NFL HISTORY A discussion broke out about Peyton Manning and is he one of, if not, the best quarterback ever to play the game. There were some varied opinions from Warren Sapp, Marshall Faulk, Steve Marriuci and Michael Irvin. The consensus view was yes, he will retire one of the greatest ever. Not so fast though! Retired Dallas Cowboy Irvin [...] Continue reading →
April has been cruel in the history of the Jets as they are notorious for their draft day blunders such as, Blair Thomas or passing on  Dan Marino for Ken O'brien . But ever since 2006, their drafts have looked very successful. The 2005 draft was awful, the Jets drafted a kicker in the second round, the only way you draft a kicker in the second round is if he is supposed to be the best kicker in history. Mike Nugent never turned out to be that guy as he isn't even on the Jets anymore. Their other second round pick was Justin Miller, who isn't even in the league anymore. But ever since 2006 the Jets have had amazing drafts, making the right decisions and getting plenty of steals. Here is a look at all the great picks the Jets have made in the past four drafts. [...] Continue reading →
Ever since their super bowl upset in 1969, what ever could go wrong did, for the Jets. Everything such as flukes, collapses, disappointments, you name it. Events such as the 1998 AFC Championship, with the Jets beating the Broncos 10-7 in the second half, a swirling gust of wind came on the Broncos kickoff, knocking the ball off it's patch and the Broncos recovered. This lead to a Broncos field goal tying the game and lead to a 13 unanswered points by the Broncos. The Jets lost 23-10. Or who could forget the 2004 divisional championship against the Steelers, with the AFC Championship within sight, The Jets kicker, Doug Brien, missed two routine field goals at the end of the game which cost the Jets a heartbreaking loss in overtime. Even Joe Namath, the hero of the Superbowl win, [...] Continue reading →
Jets continue to shut up the critics with another underdog win against the Chargers. They are now in the AFC championships for the first time since Bill Parcells was coaching the Jets. Here are some quick hits from the game. -I am not so much surprised that the Jets won, then I am that they didn't manage to blow it. I think about 99% of Jet fans were thinking the Jets were going to be the same old Jets after the Chargers scored a touchdown with two minutes and 14 seconds left. -Kerry Rhodes decided to turn on the time machine to the player he was in 2006. He had a key sack, which forced a fumble late in the fourth quarter, and returned the onside kick that saved the game for the Jets. -Rex Ryan is seeming less and less crazy when he said that the Jets should be one of the [...] Continue reading →
In my first installment of my 2010 NFL Mock draft I received a lot of comments with people speaking out about two or three of my picks. Mainly Tim Tebow going sixth to the Seattle Seahawks, Gerald McCoy 12th to the Miami Dolphins and Jahvid Best 21st to the New York Jets. So far no new big names have thrown their name into the 2010 draft pool. However I would like to point out that UW quarterback Jake Locker IS NOT going to be in the 2010 mock draft. I have seen at least five or more mock drafts in the last few days with Locker still in them. So with that being said [...] Continue reading →
On Tuesday, a major crime was committed, a man by the name of Darrelle Revis, was robbed of the defensive mvp award. It wasn't even close either, Revis had 14 votes Charles Woodson had 28. But Rex Ryan obviously was not happy as he said "You know what I would like? I would like to congratulate the people who voted for Darrelle Revis, that these guys obviously really know the game. You've got to look at the numbers, not just a number about this or a number about that, this stat or that stat." I am not going to take anything away from Woodson, he had a great year racking up nine interceptions and 74 tackles, but lets look at Revis. Here are some receivers he shutdown for under 35 yards this season: Chad Johnson x2, Andre Johnson, Randy Moss x2, [...] Continue reading →
Apparently, Mark  Sanchez did not get the memo that rookies are usually not good in the playoffs. He became the fourth starting rookie quarterback since 1950  to win a playoff game and helped lead the Jets to their first playoff victory since 2004. Mark Sanchez looked like a veteran, he was putting balls right on target, and made very good decisions and completed the game with a 139.4 passer rating. I even think he earned his nickname, the "Sanchize", back with his performance. Now let's look at the other rookie, Shonn Greene is an absolute BEAST. He's quick, he's powerful and he always keeps his legs churning. He had a great regular season, but this was his breakout performance rushing for 135 yards on 21 carries against the Bengals defense who ranked 7th in rushing yards [...] Continue reading →
