New York Jets

Jets made another splash in free agency by signing former Browns safety Rodney Pool to a one year $1.3 million contract Thursday. Also, L.T. rumors have been  all over the web. First lets discuss Pool, I like this pick-up. Although he has been plagued by injuries the past couple of years, he has produced when he was healthy. He had four interceptions, a sack and 50 tackles in the 10 games he started last year. In comparison, Kerry Rhodes had 63 tackles, 3 interceptions and no sacks in the 14 games he started. I also like this pick-up because it reduces the need for safety, originally I thought Eric Smith could handle the job just fine, Pool gives us a security net. Also because of pool, Jets now get to focus on other things in the draft such as a defensive end. Also, the Jets [...] Continue reading →
Jets have already made made a big splash in the off season by trading their 2011 3rd round pick (that could turn into a second) to the chargers for cornerback  Antonio Cromartie. But there have been mixed reviews about this trade and many people are considering this trade risky. One reason is because Cromartie  has a troubled past. This includes seven children in five states and according to him with five or six women, assault for hitting a guy over the head with a campaign bottle, $25,000 owed in unpaid child support, etc. (you can read about more of his troubles here) The second reason, Cromartie has been very inconsistent from his 2007 season where he was one of the best corners [...] Continue reading →
The Jets are expected to release Thomas Jones this week and there have been mixed reviews on whether they made the right decision. Either way, Thomas Jones is now one of the top free agents in the market and the Jets made a mistake by letting him go, here is why. Reason #1 Jets Aren't going to be spending much money anyway: Sure Thomas Jones had cost a lot to keep with his upcoming roster bonus and salary, but the Jets aren't going to be spending this much this off season. Due to restrictions, the Jets have to lose a free agent, to sign one and it has to be similar value. So why lose your 1,400 yard rusher when you don't really need to save the money for free agency. Reason #2 Jones deserved the money: He rushed for 1,400 and [...] Continue reading →
The off-season is here, which means the draft and free agency are coming up very soon. Unfortunately for the Jets, they cannot be an active participant in this years free agency class. Under the current CBA, which calls for an uncapped year this year, the Jets have to lose a free agent, to sign a free agent. The catch, it has to be of equal value to the player lost.  This is because the Jets went to the divisional round and all teams in the divisional round have to follow this rule. This is particularly bad because the Jets have some needs and one of those needs is on the D-line, and Julius Peppers is a UFA this year. This means the Jets will not get Peppers. But, their is also the draft where the Jets can fill some needs and maybe they can pull out a trade. So without [...] Continue reading →
It has been a spectacular season for the Jets, as they made their improbably journey to the AFC Championship. Although they did not make it to the super bowl like they hoped for, you still have to applaud them. So without furthur ado, here are my awards from the Jets 2009 season Rookie of the Year: Although Mark Sanchez helped get us to the post season. Shonn Greene helped lead us to the AFC Championship and for his performances, I have to give the rookie of the year to Shonn Greene. It is a very tough choice, but all Sanchez really did for the Jets is not do horrible (and even in some games he did just that), while his teammates around him have to carry the load for him to fix his mistakes. Shonn Greene on the other hand did a great job being a second running back behind Jones in the [...] Continue reading →
Rex Ryan is continuing to stir up some interesting quotes, even in the offseason. The Huddle reported that Rex Ryan said: "I told our players to wear their Jets stuff and be proud of it," Ryan said. "There's no reason we shouldn't be proud to be a New York Jet. This isn't the Same Old Jets, and any negative connotation that way is crazy." And Ryan added with a laugh, "Like I said, punch somebody in the nose for it if that's the case. That's the way we feel because our football team is tough." In other news, I am going to stop writing anything negative about the Jets. But really, I like this quote, its showing [...] Continue reading →
Ever since 1969, the Jets have been on the doorstep of greatness multiple times, but never getting in. Today was another one of those times, getting the door slammed on them by the Colts in a 30-17 loss in the AFC Championship. The Jets vs. Colts match up was very similar to the last time the Jets made the AFC Championship, in 1998 versus the Broncos. Both Jet teams had the lead, then blew it giving up a big run. In the Jet game in 1998, the Jets led 10-0 in the early third quarter, but the Broncos rallied back and scored 23 unanswered points. As, well in the Jets vs. Colts game, the  Jets were up 17-6 with 2:11 seconds to go in the half, the Jets blew it by letting the Colts score 24 unanswered points. The Jets were left taking the plane back to New York instead of Miami. On [...] Continue reading →
Chamionship Sunday has arrived and the teams remaining are interesting indeed. Who would have ever predicted the Jets making it this far with a rookie coach and rookie quarterback? So today I got up early today and began watching the pre-game show on NFL Network. I love listening to Rich Eisen with his crew of retired coaches and players. He's one of the best Ever at keeping control of his show. GREATEST QUARTERBACK IN NFL HISTORY A discussion broke out about Peyton Manning and is he one of, if not, the best quarterback ever to play the game. There were some varied opinions from Warren Sapp, Marshall Faulk, Steve Marriuci and Michael Irvin. The consensus view was yes, he will retire one of the greatest ever. Not so fast though! Retired Dallas Cowboy Irvin [...] Continue reading →
April has been cruel in the history of the Jets as they are notorious for their draft day blunders such as, Blair Thomas or passing on  Dan Marino for Ken O'brien . But ever since 2006, their drafts have looked very successful. The 2005 draft was awful, the Jets drafted a kicker in the second round, the only way you draft a kicker in the second round is if he is supposed to be the best kicker in history. Mike Nugent never turned out to be that guy as he isn't even on the Jets anymore. Their other second round pick was Justin Miller, who isn't even in the league anymore. But ever since 2006 the Jets have had amazing drafts, making the right decisions and getting plenty of steals. Here is a look at all the great picks the Jets have made in the past four drafts. [...] Continue reading →
Ever since their super bowl upset in 1969, what ever could go wrong did, for the Jets. Everything such as flukes, collapses, disappointments, you name it. Events such as the 1998 AFC Championship, with the Jets beating the Broncos 10-7 in the second half, a swirling gust of wind came on the Broncos kickoff, knocking the ball off it's patch and the Broncos recovered. This lead to a Broncos field goal tying the game and lead to a 13 unanswered points by the Broncos. The Jets lost 23-10. Or who could forget the 2004 divisional championship against the Steelers, with the AFC Championship within sight, The Jets kicker, Doug Brien, missed two routine field goals at the end of the game which cost the Jets a heartbreaking loss in overtime. Even Joe Namath, the hero of the Superbowl win, [...] Continue reading →
