QB: Jay Cutler, 3rd yr, Denver Broncos
One of the strongest arms in football.

RB: Marshawn Lynch, 2nd yr, Buffalo Bills
Rushed for over 1,100 yards as a rookie. Improved patience will translate to big things.

WR: Vincent Jackson, 4th yr, San Diego Chargers
Outstanding size augments his first-class athleticism. Came alive in the playoffs last year.

WR: Calvin Johnson, 2nd yr, Detroit Lions
Healthy, more mature, playing in a new offense.

TE: Vernon Davis, 3rd yr, San Francisco 49ers
Even with the Niners’ shaky QB situation, he’ll get plenty of opportunities as one of the focal points in Mike Martz’s offense.

AFC West 2008 Predictions and AwardsAugust 5, 2008

1. San Diego Chargers

Injuries potentially pose major problems. Still, this team is loaded and this division, unequivocally, is not.

2. Denver Broncos

How many damaged free agents does this team have to sign before realizing they’re setting themselves up for mediocrity?

3. Oakland Raiders

Talent isn’t lacking, but the organization is a mess.

4. Kansas City Chiefs

Roughly half of their starters should be backups. That’s the nature of the rebuilding beast.

Denver Broncos 2008 Preview ReportAugust 3, 2008

Okay, enough is enough. Somebody has to say something. The Denver Broncos are too fine a franchise for this. Look at them––they’re doing it wrong! This isn’t how you build a team! If someone would just go over there and tell them, we’d all be better off.

Aren’t you getting tired of the mediocrity? The people in the Rocky Mountain region sure are. It’s maddening. There’s talent everywhere, and yet, the Broncos have but one playoff victory in the past decade.

Denver loves to trumpet the fact that they did not have a losing season from 2000-06. That changed last year when they underachieved immaculately and finished 7-9. And besides, who cares about “non-losing seasons”? Deadbeat teams champion their “non-losing seasons”; the Broncos are a franchise that, just 10 years ago, hoisted the first of their back-to-back Lombardi Trophies. Give us a break.

The Hope: The high-motor Allen builds on his league-leading 15.5-sack performance from a year ago.

The Caveat: The Chiefs labeled Allen an “at risk” player, thanks to is two DUI’s while in Kansas City.

The Reality: Without approving drinking and driving, the fact of the matter is Allen already served a two-game suspension and has been a model citizen over the past year and a half. His legal woes are behind him. On the field, he may very well…

The Big MysteryApril 28, 2008

Why is everyone whispering?” I asked David, a Boise sportscaster, in my own hushed tone. He and I were leaning against a railing inside the Caven-Williams Sports Complex, Boise State’s new regal indoor practice facility. We were encompassed by the interior of a barn-like edifice that seemed better suited for housing 747-jets. Thirty five feet in front of us was a white stripe that someone had carefully painted on synthetic grass to indicate the 40-yard-line on the school’s only green football field. Forty-five yards to the left of that line sat Ryan Clady, Boise State’s 6’6”, 315-pound All-Everything left tackle, two months removed from declaring for the NFL draft and two…
