It would be difficult to dispute that Mason Crosby had a bad year kicking field goals for the Green Bay Packers. Among kickers with at least 15 attempts, his 75% average field goal percentage (FG%) was better than only 6 other kickers in the NFL. Towards the end of the season, Crosby collected “votes of confidence” from Packers coaches like Ted Thompson collects wide receivers (more than should be necessary).
Despite his less than eventful 2009, Crosby somehow triggered incentives in his contract that has doubled his salary for 2010, from $500K to 1M. As Don King loves to say, God Bless America! And [...]

The Cleveland Browns have signed Jake Delhomme to a two year contract as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter. Delhomme, who is 35, was recently released by the Carolina Panthers. He will join Seneca Wallace, Brady Quinn and Brett Ratliff as Browns quarterbacks for now.
Instead of clearing up the Browns quarterback picture, it just got foggier than ever. Who will the starter be? One thing is for sure, the debate that has raged in Cleveland the last three plus years over Quinn vs Anderson is over. Anderson has been released and Quinn will surely be traded now that Delhomme has been signed.
Who will Quinn be traded to is the next question. The former first round pick never lived up to all the hype and hope that Browns fans had for him. Quinn has been more of a fan favorite instead of a [...]

The second installment of the Patriots Free Agency Hindsight Report is ready for release after a significant week of movement! Enough intro, let's get right into it here:
-TE Ben Watson is officially a member of the Cleveland Browns. No surprise that they lost him - they didn't have a lot of incentive to bring back a player that only had one season with at least 40 catches and 500 yards (2006 his third season: 49 catches, 643 yards, 3 TDs). In fact, the Patriots faced almost the same situation in 2007 when they let 2002 first round pick TE Daniel Graham go after five seasons (none with at least 40 catches and 500 yards). More on this later.
-CB Leigh Bodden re-signed with the Patriots. His new contract is for 4 years, $22 million, with $10 million guaranteed. Starter's [...]

There are certain athletes in professional sports that establish a reputation as fan favorites among the city they play in. When the Philadelphia Eagles released Hank Baskett prior to the 2009 season, fans said goodbye to a player who provided plenty of memories during the first three years of his career.
After one season with the Indianapolis Colts, Baskett will return to the team he started his career off with after signing a one-year deal with the Eagles.
While he never possessed the skills as a top wideout for Philadelphia, Baskett provided the Eagles with a number of big plays over his three years [...]

Well, looks like my mock draft isn't so crazy after all. I said that I think the Dolphins are going to take a long hard look at Derrick Morgan, and many people did not agree with me, to say the least. Now, however, it is being reported by the palm Beach Post's Edgar Thompson that Morgan is sitting high on the Phins draft board.
See here for the report.
At 6' 3" and 266 lbs, many think he is simply too big to be an outside linebacker. I happen to disagree. I think he would be the perfect person to fill the roll Matt Roth used to have for us (remember, Roth was 6' 4" and 275 lbs). He would be the perfect guy to set the edge against [...]

After six years backing up Peyton Manning, Jim Sorgi was released by the Colts about a week ago. But it doesn't mean he can stay away from Manning. It's not Peyton we are talking about anymore: it's Eli.
The New York Giants have signed Sorgi to a one-year deal. He served pretty well backing up Peyton. Sorgi will be competing with Rhett Bomar for the No. 2 spot. Sorgi was placed on IR last season with a bad shouler. After trying out for New York, he said his shoulder felt fine.
Sorgi has 929 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception in his career with the Colts. We'll just have to wait and see what he does in New York [...]

The Cleveland Browns have signed former New England tight end Ben Watson to a three year deal. Watson, 29, gives the Browns a much needed receiving threat at TE. Last year he had 29 catches for 404 yards and five touchdowns. Watson will team with Evan Moore to give the Browns a very respectable pair of tight ends.
Cleveland continues to sign solid veterans. With the signing of linebacker Scott Fujita, right tackle Tony Pashos, Watson, and the trade for Seneca Wallace, the Browns are filling holes with quality veterans. Maybe they aren't marque names but they are an upgrade none the less.
Last year Eric Mangini started building the Browns with smart, selfless, high charactor players. Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert seem to be doing more of the same this [...]

Disclaimer: Usually journalist and especially good journalist don’t usually use “I” in articles and recently I’ve been trying to improve on that and just stick with reporting. However I’ve decided to try a little experiment and create a new series of articles titled “In my opinion” which will include players, coaches and other aspects of the NFL an give my opinion on those topics. So articles titled “In my opinion” will be the only time I use “I” in an article, but when it comes to reporting on the Seahawks and the draft, “I” won’t be included. Just needed to clear that with this [...]

Jets made another splash in free agency by signing former Browns safety Rodney Pool to a one year $1.3 million contract Thursday. Also, L.T. rumors have been all over the web.
First lets discuss Pool, I like this pick-up. Although he has been plagued by injuries the past couple of years, he has produced when he was healthy. He had four interceptions, a sack and 50 tackles in the 10 games he started last year.
In comparison, Kerry Rhodes had 63 tackles, 3 interceptions and no sacks in the 14 games he started.
I also like this pick-up because it reduces the need for safety, originally I thought Eric Smith could handle the job just fine, Pool gives us a security net. Also because of pool, Jets now get to focus on other things in the draft such as a defensive end.
Also, the Jets [...]

The first week of NFL free agency is almost in the books.
Numerous teams have already made significant upgrades at positions of need.
Unfortunately, the San Francisco 49ers are not one of them.
Despite having multiple starting positions in need of an upgrade, the 49ers have made only one minor signing so far this season. By signing quarterback David Carr to back up Alex Smith, San Francisco's lone free agent pickup thus far has come at a position quite low on the needs list.
In fact, quarterback wasn't really a need at all considering the direction the 49ers are heading in with continuity being of the utmost importance.
Now fans and analysts may argue the order of the top four biggest needs for the 49ers, but there really is no arguing against what [...]
