Bills Head Coach, Perry Fewell wins home debut as the whole team chips in

The Bills squish the fish, the Bills squish the fish! I cannot stop saying that phrase. Of course, this phrase was coined back in the 90’s when Dan Marino was the QB of the Dolphins and Jim Kelly was the QB for the Bills. None the less, it happened again this past weekend.

Despite the Bills entering the game at 0-1 under new head coach Perry Fewell, I have to say this was not the same team as the previous week. This team looked charged on both sides of the ball and everyone did their part to share a win in Western New York.

Another bright spot along with Coach Fewell was starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Although Fitzpatrick did not have stellar stats, he looked confident with his offense. Confidence is something Trent Edwards never found this season while attempting to lead the team. Fitzpatrick went 17-of-26 for 246 yards with one passing TD, one rushing TD and one interception. That lone TD pass was given to Terrell Owens who also finished the game with 96 yards receiving.

I do, however, have to give the most Kudos to Bills RB Fred Jackson. Jackson finished the game with two touchdowns and 116 yards rushing. The receiver core put up solid numbers to at least move the ball down the field. However, it was Jackson that kept the offense together. The lone fumble on offense was by WR R. Parrish, but he recovered it so no harm done.

Now on to my favorite part: the defense. The defensive unit put on a show Sunday. Of course, the back field was up to their old tricks of picking off the ball twice from the opposing teams QB (Henne) but the linebacker core really impressed me. This linebacker core recorder recorded one interception in the end-zone by Chris Craft to prevent a Dolphins TD. Furthermore, they contributed in shutting down Dolphins QB Chad Henne to 175 passing, one touchdown and three interceptions.

Did I mention Chris Craft’s interception was thrown by Dolphins RB Ricky Williams? Yes, even Ricky couldn’t throw a TD against the Bills defense. Williams finished the game with 115 yards rushing, one TD and one interception. The only touchdown pass from Henne was caught by Brian Hartline. These would be the only two touchdowns scored by the Dolphins all game.

The Bills this week will be back on the field north of the border in less than three days as they take on their neighbors the New York Jets. Yes, the Canadians will put down their hockey sticks for once to watch some good ‘ol American football Thursday night in the Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto. The Jets come into this game with a record of 5-6 and fresh off a win against the Carolina Panthers.

Being that this is pretty much a home game for the Bills (hour and half drive from Buffalo), I look for the two teams to be closely matched in the first half and then watch the Bills pull ahead in the second half. Also, if you think Bills fans are nuts at a home game in Buffalo wait till you get them to Toronto.

Here we go Buffalo, here we go!!!!!

So I guess the Bills are Canada’s team now? Good for the Canadians. They’re at least not beaten down emotionally by all the 7-9 seasons in recent years. Good article here.

The Bills have always been Canada’s team. The Canadians and Toronto have been trying to get the Bills to come North of the Border since I was a kid in the 80s and 90s.
A 7-9 season would be nice to have this season being they will more than likely go 5-11 if and thats a big “if” they beat the Chiefs.
Thanks Ross for reading, I appreciate it.
