Bills are slow to make waves in the free agent ocean
The Bills are making moves in free agency, however they are few and far between. Clearly, the Bills organization, being a small franchise, are afraid of what a no cap season will bring.
Buffalo’s first signing since free agency began last Friday is OL Cornell Green. Green continues his ten year playing career, most recently the last three years with Raiders, with Buffalo. Green had several visits lined up, but once he visited One Bills Drive, he knew that was the place for him. Along with his playing experience, a Super Bowl ring finally comes to Buffalo. The Super Bowl was won during his tenure with the Tampa Bay Bucs.
When asked about Buffalo, Green responded, “I’ve been waiting for a long time to get this opportunity to be a leader and be an example for other guys. I’ve been a lot of places in my career. I’ve won a Super Bowl in Tampa so I bring some intangibles that a lot of guys don’t have right now because of their inexperience. I’m just willing to work with the guys and be a part of the team.”
Another Bills player received a contract extension last week, safety Bryan Scott. Scott is coming off his best season as a Buffalo Bill considering the injury he suffered. Scott, along with Whitner and Byrd will continue to reek havoc for QB’s next season.
Finally, tenders were erected for four Bills last week. Linebacker Keith Ellison, tight end Derek Schouman, safety George Wilson and cornerback Ashton Youboty were all extended qualifying offers.
A few years ago the Bills went out and signed two high priced offensive linemen and the results were a disaster. So I don’t mind seeing them sit back in free agency this year. Let someone else make the stupid mistakes…
