Well, looks like my mock draft isn't so crazy after all.  I said that I think the Dolphins are going to take a long hard look at Derrick Morgan, and many people did not agree with me, to say the least.  Now, however, it is being reported by the palm Beach Post's Edgar Thompson that Morgan is sitting high on the Phins draft board. Well, free agency was once again an exciting time for Dolfans.  For weeks leading up to free agency, it was speculated that the Dolphins would pursue free agent lineback Karlos Dansby.  He is young, fast, athletic, gets sacks, forces fumbles, and snags interceptions.  It almost seemed too good to be true.  Fans were drooling over him, but of course such a young and talented player would have more than one suitor.   It was rumored we would have to outspend big money teams like the Redskins, yet at the end of the day the Phins were the highest bidder, and Dansby is now a Dolphin.   This is huge news for the team.  The Dolphins became infamous last season for being completely unable to cover tight ends with our LBs.  We also had basically zero impact plays from the ILB position [...] Continue reading →

Well, sorry folks- I've been pretty sick the past few weeks and I haven't had a whole lot of time to write.  In fact, I'm still pretty sick but I can't be dormant for this long - so here are the latest goings on in Dolphins land. Well, there have been some rumors about J-Peezy floating around for some time now.  Vague reports that he was being a pest during the season, and that (along with his advanced age, and injuries) was likely to get him cut before his 7 figure roster bonus due this March.  Those vague rumors, however, have blown up into a full on scandal. Alright everyone, I'm getting ready to put together my pre-Senior bowl mock tomorrow, but first, I wanted to take a more specific look at what positions we will be targeting.  Last time, I kind of threw it out there that the Phins are a team in need of help at many positions, with an emphasis on defense.  What I'd like to do here is clarify what positions the Dolphins would LIKE to address (ie may draft or sign a player here if appropriate, but could live if they didn't) and NEED to address (ie we will be where the Rams are if we don't sign a good free agent or use a high draft pick here). At the end of every season, I like to do a bit of a post mortem, so to speak.  I go back and take a look at the stats, comb through my notes, and try to figure out what we did best, and where we fell short.  This way I can try to make an educated guess about how the offseason will play out, what free agents we may go after, and which players we might target in the draft.  I'm just about wrapping up my initial overview, and the indications so far are that this team still needs help EVERYWHERE. Well, last time I posted here the Dolphins were in an increasingly desperate search for a defensive coordinator after firing Paul Pasqualoni and then subsequently being turned down by their first two choices (Al Groh and Keith Butler).  Just when it looked liked we might be out of reliable options, we were given a gift from the football gods.  From seemingly out of nowhere, Mike Nolan decided to "mutually part ways" with the Denver Broncos, just one season after improving Denver's D from 29th overall in the league in 2008 to 7th this past season.  He also trimmed almost 8 points per game off of the Bronco's average points allowed, and perhaps most importantly, developed the undersized Elvis Dumervil into the NFL  sack leader with 17 total sacks.  Rumor has it that Paul Pasqualoni was [...] Continue reading →

Well, the Dolphins may be forced to cough up their lockers at Landshark (or is it now Sunlife?) Stadium to the stinkin' Jets if they manage to win one more game, but there is a silver lining to the cloud of this disappointing season.  Due to our lousy record, our coaching staff will be responsible for coaching the South team in this years Senior Bowl.  Usually it goes to the team with the worst record, but for various reasons the teams in front of us pulled out.  What exactly does this mean? Well- that wasn't the way we wanted it to end.  It was truly surprising to see this team collapse down the stretch this year when the games mattered most.  Especially after last year when we won every game we had to to get into the post season.  Overall though, I can't be too disappointed.   I mean, its not like I didn't see a mediocre record coming this year- just year 2 of a rebuild from a 1-15 season while facing one of the leagues toughest schedules.  Add ontop of that the massive amount of injuries suffered, and the fact that we had to rely mostly on rookies for direction and leadership, and it is amazing we aren't in the same category as the Lions or Rams.  In fact, the struggles of those teams should remind us just how amazing it is that we turned our team around so fast, [...] Continue reading →
