Um yeah, that didn't go well. The Rams were beat in almost every faucet of the game from offense to defense. While they looked competitive in the first half and some of the third quarter, they were thoroughly beaten by the fourth quarter which resulted in the lopsided 28-0 loss. Looks bad, is bad. However, I am not one for overreactions. I'm not going to judge this team, this season, or this new coaching staff based on a poor performance on the road during opening weekend. The team and the staff deserve more time to make this work, and I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt before I go throw them on the bus. So here's what I thought about the game. The Negatives The Wide Receivers: Bulger had time to throw the ball most of the time. [...] Continue reading →
Happy Friday all. I hope you're all as jacked up on football as I am. Great game last night between what should be two quality teams in the AFC. Both defenses looked great, but Pittsburgh was able to move on a gassed Titans' D to win the game in OT. The Rams release of Chris Draft comes as a surprise to me. Apparently he refused to take a small paycut in order for the Rams to be able to sign a free agent to play wide receiver, so they just let him go. Why he has lost a step, I still thought Draft could play a big part in the 2009 Rams. He was essentially the starter at strong side linebacker, and his release leaves a hole at that position. Reports [...] Continue reading →
So, I'm not quite sure where this post is going to lead me, but I'm insanely jacked up for the start of football tomorrow night as well as the Rams opener on Sunday in Seattle as well as pissed off about what I'm reading about the Rams, so here I am. Before I get started with my main point/rant, I have a couple things to share. First, a couple of programming notes. I'm going to try my very very hardest to post twice a week. Taking 15 hours this semester coupled with my job and being in several organizations makes my life tough most of the time. However, I'm committed to this site and blogging about the Rams twice a week. What I hope to do on a semi-regular basis is get you guys a game preview on Fridays and a game recap/analysis/whatever I feel like writing about on Mondays or [...] Continue reading →
Before I start with the defense preview, I have a few things to get through. First, yesterday was a bad day for the 2006 draft class. Former second round pick Joe Klopfenstein was released as part of the mandatory cuts to get the roster down to 75. Klopfenstein was unimpressive in his three years in St. Louis, and some would argue that he never had NFL TE talent to begin with. The big news of the day however, former first round pick Tye Hill was traded to the Falcons for a 2010 seventh round pick. Apparently, Coach Spags did not see a place on the team for Hill, trading him for a measly seventh round pick. Hill was also unimpressive in his three years in St. Louis, and did not fill the need he was hoped to fill when drafted. That leaves two current players on the roster from the '06 [...] Continue reading →
Happy Monday everyone. After a mostly encouraging preseason game last Thursday for the Rams, I'd thought we'd take a unit-by-unit look at where the Rams stand going into the final preseason game of the year. Obviously, the Rams still have glaring holes and potential key injuries, but I'm somewhat confident in the team for this time of year. First, we'll take a look at the offense. Quarterbacks: Obviously, Bulger's finger injury is concerning. Not only does it keep him out of the most important preseason game, but also costs him valuable practice time to learn Coach Spags new west coast offense. Obviously, he can still attend meetings and such but there's no substitute for real live practicing. His prognosis seems a little fuzzy to me, but all signs point to him being [...] Continue reading →
Hello all, been a long time since I had the privilege of yapping at 'ya. Anyway, I have lots and lots of news and training camp info to sift through, but today we're going to talk mainly about a bit of news I got literally minutes ago. ESPN is reporting that Donnie Avery is out 4-6 weeks with a foot injury. It claims in the story that Avery woke up with soreness in his left foot on Saturday morning thinking it was no big deal. However, he had a precautionary MRI taken yesterday, which showed more significant damange than expected. He is expected to be out 4-6 with an undisclosed foot injury. Looking at my calendar, four weeks would be August 30th and six weeks would be September 13th, which just so happens to be the same day as the first game for the Rams. Either way, Avery looks to [...] Continue reading →
Morning (or actually, afternoon), all. I first want to send out my condolences to the Tennessee Titans family and the friends of Steve McNair. What an awful story that became, and I really am sad to see his life end like that. As I'm sure you all know, McNair was the quarterback of the 1999 Titans team that went on to the Super Bowl and eventually lost to the Rams, giving them their first title. He will be missed by a lot of people. My condolences to those around him. Second, as an addendum to my last post, FedEx front man Fred Smith is reportedly not interested in buying the Rams. His name had floated around as a possible candidate, but it has since settled. No new names have surfaced in the past couple weeks, so this thing may truly come down to Dave Checketts and Stan Kroenke. Not [...] Continue reading →
Good evening, all! Tonight, I'm going to blab to you about the impending sale of the St. Louis Rams football team. As you probably already know, the Rams were officially put on the selling block earlier this month. Some people would argue that the team has been on the selling block since early 2008, when former owner Georgia Frontiere passed away and her children, Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez took over. Either way, the estate taxes kicked in, and the team is officially ready to be sold. A lot of discussion has been generated on who will be the next owner of the Rams. Fans in St. Louis are worried about an out-of-towner seizing control of the team and moving them outside of St. Louis. On the contrary, fans in LA are excited about the possibility of the return of NFL football. [...] Continue reading →
Before I start, there's three bits of Rams news to share, the last of which will lead me into the topic of discussion today. First, in case you missed it, Pisa Tinoisamoa signed a one year deal with the Bears last weekend. Tinoisamoa gets reunited with his former coach Lovie Smith and gets to compete along side Brian Urlacher. Pisa will have to compete for a job with the loaded Bears defense, but it's a pretty good deal for him nevertheless. I wish him nothing but the best. Second, the Rams were officially put up for sale by the Rosenbloom family this past weekend. After a year of of really knowing what they wanted to do and "trying to find the right person in St. Louis," Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez finally decided to officially put the team up for sale. This has created many [...] Continue reading →
Okay, finals are over, school is done, and I'm ready to focus on football again. So here's a short post about the present and the future of the Rams linebacking corps. Over the weekend, the Rams surprised some people by giving former second round pick Pisa Tinoisamoa his walking papers. Tinoisamoa will go down in Rams lore as a player who had tons of potential, realized that potential during certain moments, but overall was a frustration. Though the leading tackler on the team last season, the Rams seem to be heading in a different direction with this unit. With Pisa gone, the Rams have a hole at one of the outside linebacker positions. Quinton Culberson seems to have a starting job locked up, as he performed well towards the end of last season. However, the second outside linebacker [...] Continue reading →
