Now that draft day is over and the madness has subsided, we can reflect on the Texans draft choices and try to project where the team goes from here. The Texans drafted (in order): 1.  Brian Cushing LB from USC 2. Conner Barwin DE from Cincinnati 3. Antoine Caldwell OL from Alabama 4. Glover Quin CB from New Mexico 5. Anthony Hill TE from N.C. State 6. James Casey TE from Rice 7. Brice McCain DB from Utah 8. Troy Nolan S from Arizona State The Texans filled all of their defensive needs in this draft (of course that is saying that they all work out and play) and drafted some depth on the offensive side of the ball.  At first I could not understand why they drafted two TE's back to back but I think I may have finally figured this one out. By Exsquid With only three and a half days, more or less, left before the 2009 NFL draft it is time for some final thoughts on our Texans and the state of the NFL in general. Last year saw the Texans pull out an 8-8 record after going 0-4 in the first month of the season.  With the offense finally playing up to the level of the leagues elite teams it only remained for the defense to step up and provide some help.  Unfortunately Houston's defense was not entirely up to the task and we lost several close games which left us without a true winning season and short of the playoffs. The preseason for the Texans is fairly unimpressive, with the exception of a Monday Nite Football game against Minnesota in week three.  This is the preseason game where the starters get their most playing time and you can get a decent feel for how they are shaping up.  Whether the Vikings go with Gus Frerotte or John Booty, doesn't really matter in this game.  What does matter, is how the Texans offense does against the Viking defense. Houston has the 15th toughest schedule in the league this year, but the divisional games are spread out over the course of [...] Continue reading →
By: Exsquid As the 2009 NFL draft approaches it is time to take a look at the off season moves by the Texans and look toward their possible draft moves. So far this year the Texans have released or traded the following players: QB Sage Rosenfels (traded to Minn. for a 4Th round pick), DE Antony Weaver (released), OT Ephraim Salaam (released), S Will Demps (released), LB Morlon Greenwood (released), RB Ahman Green (released).  While we wish these players the best in their careers, these cuts helped us with the salary cap. The following players where resigned or tendered offers (I am only listing the big names here): CB Dunta Robinson was designated a franchise player and tendered a one year deal pending contract negotiations. TE Owen Daniels was tendered a one year [...] Continue reading →
