At times it really does suck being a Browns fan

Today was supposed to be the day I come here and talk about the picks and grade each one, introducing each of the new Browns. But as they often do in any occasion, the Browns went ahead and took a poop in the excitement punch bowl on draft day. There’s two kinds of Browns fans. There’s the realist who knows how it is and there is the follower who buys into the Mangini & Kokinis regime and will until the ship has too many holes to plug. They did the same with Butch Davis. They did the same with Romeo Crennel. They probably bought into Chris Palmer and Dwight Clark’s drafts as well. They probably thought Kelly Holcomb was the real deal. Well I’m here to tell you that just because these gentleman are paid professionals, that doesn’t mean every move they make is a good one. Too often guys in the business get a free pass because if for no other reason ‘they’re paid to make those decisions and they know more then a fan’. That is simply an untruth.

Let me say it right now. That was a bad draft because it could have been one of the finest drafts in modern Browns history. This draft was chalked full of impact players and the Browns took a center. I would have liked to ask the Browns regime what they were thinking giving up the #5 overall pick so easily. Did they not pay attention to what their very own franchise gave up a couple years ago to move up to #22 and select Brady Quinn? It cost them a 2nd rounder and a 1st rounder from the next year. The Jets fleeced the Browns by giving them a guy who had a half a sack last season, a safety who started 9 games, and a QB who is nothing more then a project player in this league. The fact Mangini likes him does little for me. Oh yeah andwe added a second rounder. Browns miss out on an opportunity to select Micheal Crabtree or all of the other guys who have a chance to be future Hall of Famers.

The Browns are at a point with Braylon Edwards that he needed to be traded. The bug was out there. Braylon does not want to be here anymore. It’s like when a guy kills a mob boss in one of the old mafia movies, he must also go down. There are no questions asked. I didn’t know how it had to happen, I just know it needed to happen. Braylon Edwards had to be dealt. They failed there.

The Browns then pass up on a guy who could give this team some direction in Ray Malaluga to select a guy who at best equates to a more athletic Joe Jurevicius. You have to be kidding me. They’re lucky that the Steelers didn’t grab him, but now the news is that he’s going to be coming up the middle for the next decade in Cincinnati 2 games a year and planting that center (I’m not even going to mention his name) on his butt en route to our QB. I honestly think the Robiskie pick was nothing more then a token to keep the Ohio residents happy. They’re not fooling me, these city slickers Mangini and Kokinis.

I just keep saying to myself only in Cleveland. Only in Cleveland folks. Only in Cleveland do you draft a guy to play QB and give up the farm for him only to have a journeyman QB beat him out and keep him nailed to the bench for two years with his hot and cold mirage play. Only in Cleveland do you continually shoot yourself in the foot and remain so set on refusing to do what is obviously needed or right.

I’ve been a season ticket holder for the last several seasons. I’ve decided to make like the Browns and mail it in as far as that goes. I can find a lot better things to do with a grand during these times. I also find myself thinking that at least its baseball season. I don’t have to get truly upset about these jokers until September at the earliest. And believe me, all of you optimists telling yourselves that this was a good draft; well its easy to say that in the spring. When you’re going to realize it’s a poor draft is when we win one division game and finish in last place in the division again. That’s when its going to smart. You’re going to regret what we missed out on in this draft come this November.

People don’t like it because this organization continually finds ways to disappoint but you need to understandwhy that happens. It’s because we make last place moves. We are “typical” of a moribund franchise. Honestly, I sat in my car late saturday night listening to people talk draft andwas looking at the sky thanking the world for there being an Al Davis so that we truly couldn’t be the laughingstock of the league. That is about the only thing that saves us anymore. What kind of consolation is that? That we draft better then the Raiders?

We needed to get some ‘killer’ types out of this draft. Impact guys. Guys that are going to go to war with the Steelers and Ravens in the cold and hit them in the mouth and intimidate. Playmakers that will be the envy of those fan bases when we beat them. We didn’t do that.

Now watch Manginimake this joke QB competition be a three way dance including Ratliff. That would really complete this whole disaster. Only in Cleveland. Of course the Browns won’t make Quinn the guy and let him develop properly. Why would they? It’s such an easy decision to see that it’s the right thing to do that its practically slapping Mangini in the face. But of course he’s going to continue to play a game of poker and damage the morale and divide the locker room. What was it all for? It wasn’t to deal either guy, which also needed to happen.

What can you say other then only in Cleveland?
