4-1-One Buccaneers Place
Keeping up with camp:
The Bucs are gearing up for the first preaseason game against the Tenessee Titans on Saturday at 8PM in Nashville. They have released their first depth chart of the preseason (this will change before the season). Of Note: Elbert Mack is the 3rd CornerBack as I mentioned in the previous Training Camp update. He has had probably the best camp of all the cornerbacks, but will sit behind Barber and Talib for now. He is making plays all over the field. Angelo Crowell is 3rd at Sam. According to Buc Wild over at BucEM he has been sitting most of camp. This is not a good sign. He had a major knee injury last year, however in June he refuted a report that he had a setback. This may have been a lie. Glad Mark Dominik does his homework before signing guys though coughsarcasmcough. Also of note is that Sammie Stroughter and EJ Biggers (two of our draft picks) may not make the final roster cut, unless something drastic happens. Xavier Fulton is buried in the depth chart, which surprises me slightly, however, the learning curve of the zone blocking scheme for a rook is pretty steep. Could the Bucs have 3 of their 6 draft picks miss the team? Yep. Not a very good start for Mark Dominik who apparently drafts guys who are not going to contribute. Not to mention a quarterback who may never contribute, but thats beside the point.
Antonio Bryant will get no live snaps against opponents in pre-season. He will be nursing a knee injury. Morris has downplayed this and said it is a cautionary move, however, I don’t buy it. Knee Injuries are a serious concern. If it has to do with the miniscus, this is going to cause him pain all season. While he is only 27, it’s a concern because we have nobody behind him to catch the ball. This may be an injury that dates back to last season in their Monday Night game against Carolina. You are a fool if you think everything will be just fine Week 1 and not give him trouble the rest of the year. Many times we don’t learn about how serious an injury was until much later. Not to mention he will be missing the rest of camp and his timing with the quarterbacks won’t be polished. Scary injury for the offense which has no confidence in any other WR.
In non-news Luke McCown will start against Tenn. Leftwich the following week. Still a pretty tight battle.
Here is a random, slightly innaccurate preview of the Buccaneers. Check out Andy’s for a deadly accurate one.
Here is a tremendous piece on the Kicker battle and Matt Bryants story. He is definitely the fan fave, but Nugent is giving him a run for his money.
5 Burning Questions on the Bucs camp. A national reporter who has his fair share of knowledge about the Bucs season. Not too often you get that.
That’s all for now folks. Enjoy these links and my opinion. Feel free to leave yours and I will definitely get back at ya.
